#RANBonusBox Bloomingdale’s Unboxing

I am a member of Rakuten Affiliate Network and I was lucky enough to received their fourth quarter box last year.   They recently contacted me about an exclusive Bloomingdale’s Box that only 25 women in their network would receive and asked it I would like one.  I said yes, received it promptly and I have been using the products now for a few weeks.

I am totally blown away by the items that I received.   What a generous selection of products from Bloomingdale’s!

 

Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque is an exfoliating, wash off mask and has a nice herbal scent.  The mask has little crushed cranberry seeds to help exfoliate. Turmeric helps brighten skin and this mask is full of rich antioxidants. This is a creamy yellow mask pack and it goes on smoothly as a paste without issues. I am using my e.l.f.Pore Refining Brush and Mask Tool to help smooth the mask on and I have to say, this is one of the better mask tools that I have tried. As it dries on my face, I can feel a cooling sensation, which is due to the peppermint, eucalyptus and menthol ingredients. This dries down, but doesn’t cause any tightening, despite being a clay mask. I think it is because it has jojoba oils in it, which makes it also a moisturizing mask. After 15 minutes, I then added water to help emulsify the paste into a mild scrub and massaged it for a few minutes before fully rinsing off.

My face did feel smoother and did look brighter, not stripped dry like so many clay masks can do to your skin. I also liked that it is a detox mask, due to the clay ingredients as well. I really enjoyed using this mask and I this is one of my top favorites in the box.   Full Size 2.5 oz RV $32.00

SK-II Facial Treatment Mask (Japan)   SK-II is one of the first companies that started to use fermented yeast products in their skincare ~ in fact, they trademarked galactomyces to their own brand name ~ pitera ~ which is a yeast by-product from fermented sake. It contains vitamins, amino acids, organic acids and minerals that act as anti-aging ingredients due to their antioxidant properties. It helps moisturize and brighten your skin tone, as well as an anti-wrinkle ingredient. SK-II is an expensive line and I received a 6 mask box set which retails for $95.00 (almost 16.00 per mask)

The mask itself is a thick 100% cotton mask, which seems to be very common for Japanese facial masks. I am not a fan of the really thick sheet masks as I feel it doesn’t hug the contours of my face that well, leaving gaps and allowing it to dry out quicker. There is a ton of essence with this sheet mask ~ in fact, after I applied the mask, I removed over a tablespoon of thick, clear gel essence from the package and just applied it over my face and neck.

This is a scentless mask. After 20 minutes, I did remove the mask and I did notice that some redness I had around my nose and upper lip (thanks C-PAP machine!) had reduced and my face did look brighter.

Now, according to SK-II, Japanese brides-to-be actually use these masks for 90 days before their wedding day (which makes me wonder how they can afford it!)! to get clearer and more radiant skin. As I only have 5 more masks in my set, I will save these for special occasions myself!! Do I think these are worth $16.00 per mask? No, not really. This mask only has a few ingredients, which is nice, but outside of galactomyces and sodium salicylate, I am really not seeing any BAM!BOOM! POW! factor here. I didn’t care for the thick cotton sheet mask, but I did love the fact this had a ton of essence. I think I would rather invest in the SK-II essence than the facial sheet masks, if the essence is similar to this.  6 sheet box set RV $95.00

Clinique Pop Oil Lip & Cheek Glow in Nectar Glow   This is a new product for Bloomingdale’s so it is not yet on sale there, but can be found on a few other sites.  It is new for Spring 2016 and this  lip gloss is a bright raspberry shade. This product can be used as both a lip gloss or a blusher ~ since I have oily skin, this does not work very well as a blusher, but I do love this as a lip gloss! I actually loved this so much that I wanted another color as Nectar Glow is more appropriate for me in the spring/summer months. I went and purchased Black Honey Glow, as  Black Honey is one of my favorite shades from Clinique from another site that carries this and now I have a nice fall/winter lip gloss. This is sheer and very glossy ~ I actually layer it over lipsticks to get a really lovely top shine. This is made with nourishing oils ~ olive, jojoba, sunflower ~ and has vitamin E, ceramide, squalane and soybean extracts, plus lactobacillus ferment.

This has a doe foot applicator and has a rich, but lightweight fluid-gel formula that applies smoothing.  This is a high shine gloss!  This is also a favorite of mine from this box.   This lip and cheek product is made without formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, dibutyl phthlate and camphor.  Full Size .24 oz RV $18.00

(Malin+Goetz) Detox Face Mask I do like Malin+Goetz products ~ their grapefruit cleanser is really nice and has a low pH too! This is product is made with .3% soy protein and complex amino acids which will help clarify and balance your skin. It has vitamin C and E plus soy protein to help with aging concerns and helps create a barrier to seal in moisture and hydration. This is a beige colored cream wash-off mask that smells like almonds! It is really lovely smelling and I feel like I need get an almond danish or something. Once I applied it to my face, this cream started to foam up as it has oxygenating cleansing ingredients that help deep clean your skin, open up pores and lift away dirt.

This is a bubble mask I can like as it is very gentle and doesn’t cause my skin to itch like others carbonated masks do. After 5 minutes rinse off. My face felt softer and smoother after using this. If you want maximum hydration, they recommend to just tissue off and not rinse off. I will have to try this. I’ve used this product a few times now and it is fun, but I do use a lot of product, as they want a thick layer on your skin. This is not a daily face mask, but one that you would use 1 to 2 times a week. I can see one bottle only lasting a month if used twice weekly. This is specially good for those with oily skin or if you are exposed to pollution on a daily basis but all skin types can use this product  Full Size 4 oz bottle RV $42.00.

How To Use: For deep cleansing and hydration, a thick layer of gel applied for 5 minutes or until dissipation of foam begins, in place of cleanser, one to two times per week. Oilier skin may use a thin layer daily for night-time deep cleansing and oil control. Remove with warm wash cloth and water upon oxygenation. Dryer skin may apply a thin layer daily as night-time hydrating cleanser. Tissue off without water upon oxygenation for optimal hydration. Follow with MALIN+GOETZ Face Moisturizer and Replenishing Face Serum; Grapefruit Face Cleanser on alternate schedules.

#RanBonusBox from Bloomingdale’s not only had a lip gloss/cheek tint, but several other makeup products as well

Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara in Blackest Black This is a good mascara, that is a lengthens and thickens lashes, while curling and lifting lashes from root to tip.  The color is a deep, rich intense black and has a jumbo brush head that will individually grab each lash to help create a long-lasting curl.  It is supposed to last for 8 hours.  I have been using this mascara for a couple of weeks now and it is not an overly wet mascara nor a dry one ~ it is just right.  It does stay on all day for me.   This is a very black mascara and it is dramatic.    Unboxing Beauty Tip:  The brush is very over sized but one of the issues is that the wand does have a lot of product on it.  Don’t wiggle the brush thru your lashes as most of us do ~ just start at the base and with one upward motion, sweep up quickly.     RV $30.00

 


Gucci Power Liquid Liner in Iconic Black  I LOVE liquid eyeliners and I have never tried a Gucci makeup item before ~ pretty exciting for me.   This has a fine pointed brush tip that gives me exact control and it is very dark black, with a glossy finish.  It does dry quickly and it reported to last 12 hours and is waterproof and smudge proof.   I can say this is waterproof and long lasting as I have been using it for a couple of weeks.  It is a very wet eyeliner, but it does dry quickly.  This is another winner in the box for me!   RV $38.00

Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder  I do use setting powder all the time, as I have oily skin and it helps tone down the shine and even out my foundation.   This is pretty much translucent ~ it does have a bit of a beige tone to it.  On me, it is pretty transparent and doesn’t really add color, but just evens out my skin tone.  Laura Mercier does make an  Invisible Loose Setting Powder, in case you have a darker skin tone than mine. 

This is contains finely milled French “cashmere” talc, which is very silky and smooth on the skin.  It has light reflecting ingredient which helps diffuse any fine lines on your face. I have found that this powder helps absorb excess oil but without making my skin look cake-y and it doesn’t settle into my fine lines either.  I love that this has soybean and vitamin E in it, as those have antioxidant properties as well as moisturizing.   It doesn’t last all day for me, as I do have oily skin, but it is a great setting powder for my morning routine. Sisley Paris Sisleÿa L’Intégral Anti-Âge Cream  OH BOY.  This is the crème de la crème of the box.  This has to be the most expensive skincare item I have ever owned.  For a 50 mL jar, the price tag comes in at … $525.00.   Gulp.   I do have aging concerns, as “time marches on and eventually you realize it is marchin’ across your face” (Steel Magnolias ~ one of the best quotes ever).  Sisley Paris is made in France and is known for their use of botanical ingredients, using plants and essential oils to produce high-end skincare.    This cream is their “normal” anti-aging facial cream, as they do produce an Anti-Age Extra Rich for dry skin.  Looking at the ingredient list, which the second ingredient is shea butter, I was very concerned how this cream would work on my oily skin.  

 Sisleÿa L’Integral Anti-Age contains stimulating active ingredients (Phytostimuline, Rhatany extract and Lady’s Mantle extract), regenerating and restructuring active ingredients (Ursolic Acid, vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, Soy peptide extract and White Willow leaf extract), Lindera extract for cellular rhythm*, Persian Acacia extract for cellular energy* and a Yeast and Soy protein complex for cellular longevity*.  * In vitro test

  • Apple pip extracts (Phytostimulines and Ursolic Acid): regenerate and stimulate the skin
  • Rhatany extract and Lady’s Mantle extract: help to stimulate and smooth the skin texture
  • Cocktail of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and amino acids: to revitalize

This cream is very rich and has a buttery texture with a cream color.  I first noticed the scent, which is very herbal with lavender and it is very pleasant ~ it is not overpowering.  I started to use this on my neck and cheeks, during the night as I thought this would be too rich for the day.  When I didn’t experience any adverse reaction and I was also impressed how quickly this cream was absorbed into my skin, I decided to use this as a day cream. 

Despite the rich moisturizing ingredients, the acne triggers at cosDNA were not extreme.   I have been using this cream as a day cream for a couple of weeks now all over my face, and I have not experienced any blemishes or rashes from using this cream.  It is very rich, so I only need a little bit, but it does absorb quickly without leaving a greasy or oily film.  I am very surprised by this, because of the shea butter,  rhus succedanea wax and sunflower seed oil in this product.  I do have an initial high sheen but that disappears quickly as the product absorbs into my face.

Now, I am in the middle of winter here in the Northeast and it is very dry.  This probably helps my skin absorb heavier creams without feeling like an oil slick.  I am not sure I would want to use this cream in the hot, muggy summer months here, but for now, I will continue to use this product.   According to Sisley, this cream will help reduce lines and wrinkles, pump up your skin and moisturize your face.  Over time, it should firm, tone and revitalize your skin and is regenerated.   I will review this cream fully in a few months and let you know how it worked for me.

My favorite items from this box have to be the Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque, Clinique Pop Oil Lip & Cheek Glow, (Malin+Goetz) Detox Face Mask and Gucci Power Liquid Liner.  I am pretty happy to get the Sisley face cream but I just CANNOT believe that price tag. I must be so sheltered! haha.   The final value of this box is $818.00 andI am really grateful that Jamie at RAN chose me for this box, as I didn’t even know they had a Bloomingdale’s box and I would also like to thank Bloomingdale’s as well, as they sponsored this box.
