C20 Pure Vitamin C 21.5 Advance Serum Initial Impressions

I had heard a lot of wonderful things about the original C20 Pure Vitamin C serum, but I never purchased it.  When C20 came out with a new and improved version, C21.5, I was very interested in trying it out.  Wishtrend.com graciously sent me the C20 Pure Vitamin C21.5 Serum and I have been using it for the past week.

This serum comes in a nice metallic orange box, safely secured.  The amber-colored glass bottle has a traditional eyedropper applicator, which makes it easy to apply the proper amount you wish to use.  The amber colored glass also helps with preventing the serum from oxidizing.   However, it is recommended that this serum is placed in the refrigerator between uses and to use quickly, once opened.

This serum does not contain any WATER, which is fantastic!  Instead it has 70% Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae Rhamnoides) water, which contains vitamins C, A and E, beta carotene, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids. Vitamin C is important for brightening and stimulating collagen production. It contains 200 to 800 times more vitamins than apples. Sea Buckthorn is known for its antioxidant properties to help slow down aging and to regenerate new skin cells, while penetrating deep into your derma layer and locking moisture inside.

Another key ingredient is 21.5% Vitamin C (ascorbic acid), which is an anti-aging, brightener antioxidant which helps combat free radicals, firming skin, boosting collagen production, fading sun damage and acne scars.   21.5% is a high concentration and this is fantastic, as it will really treat those pesky hyper-pigmentation spots!   Combined with the sea buckthorn, another antioxidant, this makes this serum very potent.

Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate) is an intensive moisturizing ingredient which bonds water to keep skin hydrated. It is a natural substance found in the human body and it made up of amino and uronic acids, and helps retain 100 to 1,000 times its own water weight in our skin cells.

Panthenol is derived from plants and this ingredient comes from Vitamin B5. Panthenol is a natural humectant, which retains moisture and hydrates the skin. It also is a good lubricant on the skin, making skin look soft and smooth. It is also an anti-inflammatory

Cassia Obtusifolia Seed Extract, which is high in polysaccharides, is used as a skin conditioning agent and it is similar to hyaluronic acid properties.  It also provides moisture and retains water on the surface of your skin, while acting as an anti-inflammatory and can help reduce acne.

Allantoin will soothes skin irritation, moisturizes, stimulates skin cell regeneration

C20 Vitamin C C21.5 only has 10 ingredients, whereas the original C20 had 29 ~ I like that it has less ingredients, as the more ingredients a skincare product has, the greater the risk that one of those ingredients will cause a skin reaction.  All in all, this serum is designed to reduce hyper-pigmentation and acne, leading to brighter and more even skin tone with less discoloration.  It will also moisturize, hydrate and nourish your skin.

This is a watery serum and it has no strong scent.   After I rubbed it into my hand, I did find that it was a bit tacky and even an hour later, my skin still feels tacky.  I did not put a moisturizer over my hand, so when I tried this on my face, it wasn’t until I applied my moisturizer after the serum that the tacky feeling went away.  It does absorb quickly, however, so I do not have to wait that long for my next skin care step.   My skin does look more hydrated and “glossy” for a lack of a better word.  I haven’t noticed any skin brightening yet, as I have only been using this a week.  That said, I have read other reviews on this product and it seems that C21.5 is very promising in helping even out skin tone and to brighten.  I am really looking forward to seeing what happens!

One of the downsides of this product is that I have to keep it in the refrigerator when I am not using it.  As I do not have a small beauty frig in my bathroom ~ there is NO ROOM in there!!  ~ that means if I forgot, which I have done a couple of times already, to grab it before I start my skin care routine, I will skip this step.   Yes, first world problems, but I wish I didn’t have to place it in the frig…

Compare those ingredients with the Original C20 Vitamin C Serum ~ I would not have been able to use the original one, as it has rose extracts in it.  I think that C21.5 is much superior in its ingredient list as well.
