Jolse has graciously sent me some items to review for my readers ~ and I chose some skincare, masks and this wonderful lip crayon from Skinfood.   Jolse  is a premier Korean online store and they have thousands of Korean cosmetics and skincare products, free shipping and give out lots of samples.

I was looking thru the “New” Category on Jolse’s website and I saw that Skinfood came out with some new lip crayons, called SkinFood Vita Color Delicious Straw Velvet.  Just the name is a mouthful!!  However, when I read the description on this product, I wanted to try it  ~ it comes in 8 colors in the red color spectrum, ranging from deep red to orange red, pink, peach and plum.  I chose a darker red shade ~ No 1 Sour Pomegranate.

I wanted to try a nice red shade, as it is going to be fall soon and I am pretty stocked up on berries and nudes at this point.  Why was I interested in this lip crayon as there are lots of red lippies out there?  I was attracted that this is a semi-matte lip crayon and I love matte lipsticks ~  but they can be a bit drying, so a semi-matte might be a nice change, especially for a red color.  Nudes and brown shades are more forgiving in matte, but brighter shades show every imperfection on my lips.   This has shea butter and vitamin E in it, so it will help protect and care for my lips too, while some fruit extracts provide antioxidant and anti-aging protection.

Description: An auto lip pencil that can be applied with a single touch, as lightly as a feather and as gently as a cotton fiber with a long-lasting vivid color like highly concentrated juice.  A sweet, crisp, fresh and refreshing color as if it were soaked with the complete vividness of a highly concentrated juice.  Vivid coloring with a single touch. Light and comfortable adhesion. Its light oil softly clings to lips and creates smooth lips without highlighting keratin (dead skin).  Rich and crisp color lasts for a long time with its silicon powder prescription!

This has an easy twist up applicator and the slim design makes this easy to carry in smaller purses.  The cap is supposed to represent the shade inside and I was a little surprised at the differences between the swatch in the advert from Skinfood and the actual shade of Pomegranate.  This is not a deep darker red shade.

This is red, for sure ~ but I was hoping for that red-blacked shade in Skinfood’s swatch. I will work with it, as it is a pretty shade of red and since this is semi-matte, I am hoping this won’t be a fire-engine, scream look at my lips red.

I am not a professional makeup artist so my lipstick application is not going to be perfect!! ahaha.  But I think you can see that this is a nice, highly pigmented red shade and very wearable.   You can see that it has a little sheen to it, but it isn’t glossy.  When I applied this, this creamy formula just glided on my lips, without tugging or pulling and it was easy to fix mistakes ~ but do it fast, as this does have a nice stain to it once it wears off.

This also feels really great on ~ it isn’t flavored or scented ~ at least not that I can tell ~ but it has a nice cooling feeling as I wear it.  Really comfortable to wear and very flattering ~ I think this lipstick looks great with a neutral eye ~ see my review on Skinfood Mineral Sugar Blend Eyes in Berry Chiffon palette.  I’ve been wearing this combination for a few days now and I really enjoy the brown/neutral eyes with this bright-but-not-too-bright red lippie.

Is it long wearing?  As I always say, long wearing is not a trait I look for in lipsticks, because all so-called long wearing lippies just aren’t long wearing on me.  That said, this did leave nice reddish-pink stain on my lips when it wears down.

Final Thoughts

I think I have found a red lipstick that I can wear comfortably!  I normally stay away from reds, sticking with rose, nudes, browns, berries-plum.   This is a shade that I think looks good on me and is quite pigmented, with just one swipe across my lips.  I found it easy to apply, very creamy, easy to touch up, has a great cooling feeling on my lips and leaves behind a nice stain, so I have a little bit of color on my lips.  If you are afraid of trying a true matte lipstick, give this one a try ~ I think the semi-matte look is very classic looking and very forgiving.   I would love for Skinfood to come out with a neutral range in this formula as I would purchase some nice darker nudes or marsala shades ~ I hope they will!

You can purchase SkinFood Vita Color Delicious Straw Velvet  for $7.63 USD, which is a savings of  3% off the retail price.  Jolse also has free shipping and gives lots of samples too when you place an order with them.  SkinFood Vita Color Delicious Straw Velvet has a nice range of the fruity red color spectrum  ~ yes, tomato is a fruit!
