Unboxing October 2015 BirchBox

Once again, I was not excited about the PYS choices or curated box this month.  A choice between mascaras?  Oh boy!  I picked The Benefit Roller Lash Super-Curling & Lifting Mascara (what a mouthful), but really, any of them except W3ll People would have been okay ~ I do enjoy W3ll People’s products, btw, by I find that eco-friendly and organic mascaras do not give me the high impact that I am looking for on my lashes.  But I have to say, once I saw my box, I was really happy!

This month’s theme, in support of Breast Cancer Research,  is Positive Force:   Harness the power of beauty and inspire your confidence with this month’s samples.  The box this month is a beautiful swirl of pinks.  Really pretty.

My Box Revealed!

Informational Card

Well, this is interesting.  No real information on my products on the info card.  They want me to go to the website to find out about the products, which I always do anyway… but it was nice to have the products listed on the card for quick reference.  I hope they bring that back for next month.

BioRepublic Skincare Cucumber Breeze Soothing Fiber Mask  OMG ~ I love you Birchbox!  You finally sent me a facial sheet mask, even though I am a proud member of the 500+ mask group!!  I love cucumber masks ~ I rarely see them as so many people want other, more exciting ingredients than the lowly cuc.   Cucumbers are great for soothing and reducing swelling and inflammation, plus they are cooling to your skin.   This mask has some great antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and moisturizing/hydrating ingredients with aloe vera, natto gum (fermented soybeans), glycerin, witch hazel and of course, the cucumber extracts.   I used this and it has a nice cooling sensation, very refreshing and calming with a nice light cucumber scent.  This is much better than the scent BioRepublic Aloe Facial mask  had, as it was a strong floral (at least it smelled that way to me)  It was so strange to have a floral scent with Aloe ~ aloe smells so nice and I didn’t understand why they masked the scent.    RV $4.83

Description: These soothing sheet masks bring the spa to us via natural cucumber extract, plumping plant collagen, and healing vitamin E. The powerful antioxidants and cooling powers of cucumber tighten pores, reduce the appearance of lines, and calm our stressed-out complexions, leaving us with smooth

Macadamia Professional™ Style Extend Dry Shampoo   Now, I really love Birchbox!!  I received the amazing Macadamia Professional Conditioning Mist a few months back and now this great dry shampoo.  I love that Macadamia Professional is finally recognizing those of us with fine and/or oily hair and not just focusing on thick, curly or dry hair.   I use dry shampoos to texturize, as I do wash my hair daily.  This has the classic loved scent that Macadamia Professional is known for ~ a sweet macadamia nut cookie!    Sample Size 1.5 oz   RV  $7.50

Description: Made with translucent powder that blends with all hair colors, this dry shampoo absorbs oil and product build-up in one clean sweep. The result? Rejuvenated voluminous locks at the press of a button.

Too Cool For School DINOPLATZ HIGHLIGHTER  Seriously?  TWO K-Beauty items in one box?  I guess my whining to Birchbox paid off ~ I was wondering when they were going to send me some K-Beauty items.  Someone loves me down there at Birchbox ~ haha.   I normally do not use highlighter, but I do like Too Cool For School’s skincare products ~  they have 2 shades ~ #1 Mother of Glitter and #2 Baby Pink Clam. The shade I received is #2 Baby Pink Clam and it is a lovely light peachy-pink shade.  When I blend it into my skin, there is a slight shimmer and is very beautiful and glowing.  This is a highlighter I will use, as it is not a strobe cream nor is it a chunky glitter highlighter (time & place for those).  This is a nice sample size as you wouldn’t cake this all over your face, but target the areas  ~ cheekbone, brow bone, on your cupid’s bow ~ for  lovely glow.   BTW, the design on the tube is so cute ~ it has dinosaurs walking around cities and bridges.  Sample Size 5 mL RV $5.50

Description: There’s a reason contouring is the newest makeup craze—it plays up bone structure like nobody’s business. And the trick to getting that flawless dewy look is all in the highlighter. Formulated with tiny gleaming flecks, this illuminating cream puts the spotlight on your best features (think: cheek and brow bones) so you always look picture-perfect—no retouching needed.

How to Use: Dot and blend over makeup onto cheekbones, brow bones, and bridge of nose for a touch of light-catching shimmer.

Number 4™  Lumiere d’hiver  Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil  This is a hair oil ~ I am pretty happy with the hair oils I use now ~ either Balanced Guru or Ojon, but I will try this out as it seems that it is formulated for fine hair.  My evolution on hair oils has been quite the journey ~ I would always shy away from what I considered that “greasy kid stuff”, but companies are now creating oils and leave in conditioners that are formulated for straight, fine and even oily hair.  The bottle was coated with oil, but it doesn’t look like it leaked on anything ~ I didn’t find any oily stain on the tissue paper, so maybe this is a really nice lightweight, non-greasy product.  I know it felt really nice when I rubbed the excess oil on my hands.   The scent is described as “white freesia, golden amber and warm musk.”, but it is so light, that all I smell is a faint musk scent.   I really like the clean lines of the sample bottle too, very classy.  Sample Size 14.8 mL  RV $6.50

An advanced delivery system takes beneficial botanical ingredients and creates tiny molecules from that material to infuse unique anti-aging, strengthening, color preserving and purifying. “O can’t believe I fit in this dress” results. Number4 Lumiere d’hiver Fluro5 Elixir Restore & Repair Oil. Is the little black dress of hair care… a must-have. Lightweight, restorative treatment with a super-charged 5th Element, Flurosilicone, to deliver strength, color protection and anti-aging ingredients below the surface. Reduces blow-dry time while dishing out time defying shine.

Benefit Roller Lash Super-Curling & Lifting Mascara   This is my PYS choice as I wanted to try a super curling mascara.  It has an interesting brush, very spiky and it is supposed to lift, separate and curl your lashes.   Should be really fun to try out, even though I am not in the market for a new mascara.  Sample Size 0.1 oz RV $8.00

Description: It gives lashes major curl for a wide-eyed, wide-awake look. The mascara’s innovative Hook ‘n’ Roll™ brush is coated in tiny, soft hooks, which catch onto and lift, curl, and separate each lash instantly. The brush is universal and works with any eye shape or size and varying lash types (it works especially well with short or straight lashes that won’t usually hold a curl). The mascara itself is inky black with a satiny finish, doesn’t smudge or flake, and contains provitamin B5 for lash-conditioning benefits. The result is a dramatic (but not overdone) look that lasts for up to 12 hours.

After last month’s kinda meh box, this month from Birchbox is exceptional!  I will use all of the products, including the hair oil :)  This month’s box made up for last month’s value, as it is worth $32.33 in RV.  I am really happy with this month’s box and I will use all of the products.   I paid $10.00 for it, and I did have a “5 item” box , so I was able to review for 50 points plus 10 points for sharing on twitter.   I will say it again ~ Do your reviews, ladies!  That is money at the Birchbox shop and you don’t have to “write” a review, just give feedback on the sample.  The review that shows up on the page is different from BB points reviews.   I mean, look what I got for 42 cents.

Do you subscribe to Birchbox?  What did you get this month and what was your favorite item?
