Unboxing August 2015 MaskGenie!

August’s MaskGenie concentrates on reduces redness and purifying the skin, while soothing and calming your face,  as we all need that special treatment during the hot, humid days of summer.  I don’t know what happened for August, but many people did not receive their August pouch ~ if you haven’t and you paid for it, contact her at her website and she will get a refund out to you.

I haven’t received my first order from MaskGenie, but I was able to purchase another August one from her ~ it is modified from her original selections, as some of the masks she could not get again.  However, most of the pouch is the same as her unboxing and I will let you know in the unboxing which masks were substituted.    I will give my standard intro to MaskGenie, as it is a small ~ but fantastic ~ subscription  service and you may not know about it.

MaskGenie is a monthly subscription of masks ~ facial sheet mask, body masks, wash off masks and hair masks.  The owner lives in Hong Kong and she (Genie) tries out the masks and determines which ones she feels are worthy for her customers to try.   Shipping is extremely fast ~ within a week, I get my pouch.  You can order the 10 mask pouch for $23.50 or the 5 mask pouch for $13.50 and that includes shipping and she just doesn’t ship to the USA ~ MaskGenie ships all over the world.

One of the things I really appreciate from Genie is that she does an unboxing video once she sends out the pouches.   It is really great that she cares about her customers to provide this extra service and she explains a bit about the mask, why she choose it, where it is from and so on.   Her August Pouch Unboxing Youtube can be found here.

Hayan Aesthetic Serum Snail Extreme Moisturizer Mask Sheet (Korea)  There are a couple of snail slime masks in this month’s bag and snail masks are pretty versatile, as they not only hydrate and moisturize, they are also great for healing the skin and clearing up acne.  This is an “ampule serum” mask, which means this mask contains their matching snail serum.  This is a regenerating and renewing mask, due to the snail filtrate and it will help clear and brighten skin tone.   Hayan recommends to refrigerate the mask before using.  I am pretty excited to try this one out as it looks pretty interesting to me. Value $1.00

Kuan Yuan Lian Luffa Moisturizing Mask (Taiwan)   I love Luffa products!  I actually have purchased a few Luffa facial/body sprays as I wanted to try more of this very hydrating ingredient.  Here in the states, we are used to this member of the cucumber family as the Loofah sponge, but before it dries out, its extracts are very beneficial in reducing swelling and also it is a detox ingredient.    It also helps replenish moisture in your skin and reduce pore appearance, while soothing your skin.  I am pretty excited to have this and am also glad to see it as sasa.com!  I received 2 of these masks, as MaskGenie ran out of the Shara Shara Black Charcoal mask and I requested an additional Luffa mask as a replacement.  2 masks Value $2.50

Ingredients: aqua, luffa extract, glycern, witch hazel, chamomile, allantoin, pentylene glycol, carbopol, chlorphenesin, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, phenoxyethanol, DMDM hydantoin  cosDNA.com analysis

Annie’s Way Jelly Mask (Taiwan)  This was randomly chosen from several varieties.  I received an Annie’s Way Jelly Mask in my Hold Onto Summer Beautibi Box (see review here) and purchased a 4 variety pack also from Beautibi (review here).  This is one that I haven’t tried  ~ Lavender which is a relaxing jelly mask.   This is a soothing anti-inflammatory and whitening mask, as it also contains chamomile extract.  I’ve never seen these sleeves before and they are really nice with their designs ~ the lady playing an instrument in a field of lavender :)  These are fun wash off/scrape off masks and I do love the scent of lavender, so I am very happy to get this one.  RV $6.00

Rainbow Animal Cute Mask Pack – Anti-Aging Horse Oil (Korea)  I don’t have issues using horse oil ~ I do not believe that horses are just killed for their oil to be used in skincare products. Horses are very expensive to raise and it makes no sense to me to slaughter an animal of this size and expense just to get its oil. If that were the case, any skincare product made from horse oil would be hundreds of dollars That said, I think I will save this mask for the winter time, as horse oil is very rich and very moisturizing for my skin type (perhaps too much for oily skin) and I would rather use it when my face is raw and chapped from the cold winter winds.    Horse oil is different from other animal fats, which are high in saturated fatty acids, because it has a greater ration of unsaturated fatty acids ~ essential fatty acids ~ than saturated and that is highly desirable in skin care products.  It contains two very important properties to help combat aging:

  • Alpha-linolenic acids: an essential omega-3 fatty acid, normally only found in seeds (chia, flaxseed), nuts (walnuts) and vegetable oils (canola, soybean, flaxseed).  It is an anti-inflammatory.
  • Linoleic acids:  an omega 6 fatty acid, found in vegetable oils (safflower, sunflower).   Linoleic acid helps strengthen and regenerating the moisture barrier in your skin, preventing dry skin.

The composition of the fatty acids in horse oil are fairly similar to human oil (sebum) and therefore, it can penetrate more quickly into your skin.  This does have a lot of seaweed extracts in it as well.   Value $2.00

Pure Mind Moisture Collagen Honey  Essence Mask (Korea)   The original pouch had Collagen, but MaskGenie replaced this with Honey, which is find by me :)   Honey has great antibacterial and anti-fungal properties so this is really great for oily skin.  This also is a triple honey treat, as it not only contains 1,000 ppm of honey, but propolis and royal jelly extract, all really great for oily and troubled skin. Value $1.40

Medicos V Snail Fresh Mask  (Korea)  I really like the Medicos brand and this snail mask will help with blemishes and redness.  I have tried their Soothing Snail mask, but this fresh one is new to me.  I requested 2 of these, as MaskGenie did not have the Elizavecca Silky Creamy Donkey Steam Cream Mask Pack available.  I am fine with this as I don’t really care for Steam Cream masks as they are too rich for my skin. This mask can be used at room temperature, chilled or heated.  To warm up, you just place in warm water for 2 to 3 minutes  2 masks RV $4.00

Nature Republic Apple Mango Given By Nature Mask Sheet (Korea)  I love a fruity mask!!  I don’t have issues with Nature Republic and I do love mango sheet masks in general.   This mask contains Vitamin A, which will help with hyper-pigmentation and is good for sensitive skin.  The apple mango extract will have a mild exfoliating effect, as apple and mango extracts are AHA’s and will also moisturize as well.   I received 2 of these as the Kanebo Suisai Beauty Clear Powder  was not available.  I hope that MaskGenie will consider adding this product again to the bags, as I was pretty interested in that.  However, I am, once again, okay with the repeat of this mask, as I love Apple Mango masks.  2 masks Value $4.00

I am very happy with the 3 snail masks, 2 luffa masks, 2 apple-mango mask and excited over another Annie’s Way Jelly mask for me to try!  I paid $22.00 for this pouch, which included shipping, and received a retail value of almost $21.00!   I really love the variety Genie puts in the pouches, not only with the type, but ingredients and country they are made in.  I do not have access to masks here in Boston ~ and I may not wish to gamble with an “unknown” mask initially, due to shipping costs and quality.  Despite the problems with August’s pouch, I really do like what I received and Genie really does care about her customers!

If you are interested in MaskGenie,  just go to her online store at www.skinilove.com  and you can place your order that way, which would be month by month OR if you think you want this to be a reoccurring subscription, email Genie at her FB page at and let her know to invoice you monthly.
