01 September 2015: Uncover the Essentials

My items came in a cute box adorned with lipsticks!

Play! included a really nice booklet, explaining all of the products plus some beauty hacks too.  It also contained a card that if you purchase something at Sephora’s store (in-store, not online), you will get an additional 50 points on your Sephora Beauty Insider account🙂

Sephora Rouge Infusion Lip Stain  in Peony (The Naturals)   I’ve tried Sephora’s Rouge Infusion and this is more of a creamy liquid lipstick/gloss than a stain.   Peony is a nice neutral shade of pink, neither warm or cool toned and can be worn daily.   This does not contain parabens or sulfates and contains some moisturizing ingredients: glycerin, avocado oil and olive oil.  I personally think I am going to purchase the  No. 2 – Rosewood Elixir, as that shade looks to be more “me” and I can also get my 50 points!   Deluxe Sample 0.068 oz RV  $6.26

Description: A zero-texture lip stain that leaves the lips soft, bathing them in intense color. This must-have lip stain delivers intense color with no sticky residue. It provides buildable coverage for a natural, sophisticated, or glamorous look. The weightless formula leaves lips stained, soft, hydrated, and refreshed upon application.

Ingredients: Water, Diisostearyl Malate, Dipentaerythrityl Tetrahydroxystearate/Tetraisostearate, Polybutene, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Acrylates Copolymer, Polyacrylamide, Glycerin, Peg-100 Stearate, Phenoxyethanol, Dimethicone, C13-14 Isoparaffin, CI 77492 (Iron Oxides), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Aminomethyl Propanol, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Parfum (Fragrance), Laureth-7, CI 17200 (Red 33), Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Galactoarabinan, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phytosterols, Laureth-21, Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil Unsaponifiables.

Marc Jacobs Highliner in Blacquer   This is supposed to be a waterproof, longwearing eye liner crayon, but I can tell you, it isn’t.  I owned one of the highliners before from Marc Jacobs (a pretty brown color) and it smudges like crazy.  It goes on nice and smooth, without any tugging and it is very black, but it is a smeary eye crayon.  It is best used as a kohl pencil, where  you want to smudge it.  This is not sold by itself at Sephora right now, only in a set.  However, it  can be purchased at Amazon  Deluxe Size .010 oz RV $2.50

Description: Highliner Waterproof Eye Crayon is a long-wearing, waterproof gel crayon eyeliner that glides seamlessly along the lash line. This breakthrough eyeliner applies and blends easily and flawlessly, and then sets in place for all-day wear without fade or transfer.

Ingredients: Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Isohexadecane, Isododecane, Polyethlene, Synthetic Wax, Silica, Ceresin, Polyisobutene, Methicone, Rosa Canina Seed Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Iron Oxides (CI 77499)

Ole Henricksen Sheer Transformation Cream This is a moisturizing light weight cream that is oil free and is supposed to help brighten your skin tone.  It absorbs quickly into my skin, leaving no sticky or greasy residue behind.  It does contain licorice and vitamin C, which will help fade hyper-pigmentation and it has some soothing ingredients as well.  It does smell pretty medicinal, but not in a good way ~ it has a chemical scent to it.    Sample Size .25 oz RV $7.00

Description: An oil-free, lightweight moisturizer that nourishes skin as it gently exfoliates and fades dark spots. Skin feels fresh, healthy, and bright with this lightweight moisturizer’s silky whipped texture that melts into skin. A potent blend of actiwhite™, licorice, and vitamin C help fade dark spots, even skintone, and prevent premature signs of aging while botanical fruit acids gently exfoliate and retexturize. The calming blend of sandalwood, geranium, and chamomile soothes, balances, and purifies the skin to minimize pores while glycerin lightly hydrates. Sugar cane and multifruit AHAs gently exfoliate to refine texture, even tone, and soften the look of fine lines as vitamin C brightens and provides antioxidant protection from environmental aggressors. Vitamin E heals, restores, and nourishes the skin, leaving you with a healthy-looking, smooth, refreshed complexion.

Ingredients: Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethicone, Stearyl Alcohol, Tribehenin, Glycerin, Steareth-20, Steareth-2, Hydrogenated Coco-Glycerides, Tocopheryl Acetate, Calcium Ascorbate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Pisum Sativum (Pea) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Wood Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Extract, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit/Leaf Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugar Cane) Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Acer Saccharum (Sugar Maple) Extract, Berberis Vulgaris Root Extract, Santalum Album (Sandalwood) Oil, Superoxide Dismutase, Sucrose Dilaurate, Sorbitol, Octyldodecanol, Cyclomethicone, Dimethiconol, Dimethyl Sulfone, Xanthan Gum, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Farnesol  cosDNA.com analysis

Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer This is a primer oil for your hair, before you start styling, to help protect and condition while detangling.  This is strange to me, as I do use hair oils BEFORE I start styling as is, and now I need a primer?  This is no different than how I use hair oils today, as I do not need to add them to my hair after styling ~ my hair is baby fine and oily.   This oil contains no sulfates and contains a variety of oils ~  coconut, argan, macadamia, almond, grape, safflower.  This actually reminds me of a serum more than an oil, due to its white color and thicker, yet lightweight texture. I don’t really smell anything that interesting ~ faintly fruity.    Sephora’s Beauty Hack is to use this primer as a brow tamer ~ which I think I will do as well;  not that I have eyebrows like the current Doctor Who, but they can be a little messy at times.  Sample Size 1 oz RV $4.50

Description: This multitasking primer is infused with six different feather-light oils for complete hair transformation. It has been shown to make hair softer, smoother, silkier, and less tangled as it tames frizz and protects against breakage from heat and UV radiation—all without weighing hair down. It also features a pleasant scent with sweet, fruity hints and tropical touches.

  • Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol/Behentrimonium Methosulfate, and Cetrimonium Chloride: Condition and help with ease of combing.
  • Dimethicone and Dimethiconol: Provide heat styling protection, add shine, and leave hair soft and smooth.
  • Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Pg-Propyl Silanetriol: Helps to protect against damage caused by blow drying, combing, and styling when activated by heat from a blow dryer; enhances hair gloss and smoothness by helping to repair thermal damage to the cuticles.
  • Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane: Act as sunscreens to help protect hair from the drying effects of the sun.

Ingredients: Distearyldimonium Chloride, Cetearyl Alcohol/behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetrimonium Chloride, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein Pg-propyl Silanetriol, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein Pg- Propyl Silanetriol, Cocos Nucifera (coconut) Oil, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (sweet Almond) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (grape) Seed Oil,  Carthamus Tinctorius (safflower) Seed Oil, Gardenia Tahitensis (tiare) Flower Extract, Hydroproyl Trimonium Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerine

Glam Glow SUPERCLEANSE™ Daily Clearing Cleanser I actually was involved in study last year with Pink Panel where this was the product I tested ~ I really LIKE it a lot and it is quite expensive.  This clay cleanser actually goes from “mud” to a foaming cleanser once you start applying it to your face with water.  It contains kaolin (clay) to help detox and unclog your pores, licorice to help brighten your skin tone, charcoal ~ another detox and deep cleansing ingredient.  It does not contain parabens, sulfates or phthalates  Deluxe Size 1 oz  RV $14.00

Description: Based on the top selling SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment, SUPERCLEANSE™ is the natural next step in the SUPER family for problematic skin. The revolutionary daily cleanser transforms from mud into a foaming lather to dissolve oil and makeup—rinsing away pore-clogging debris and impurities. It’s designed to reduce the appearance of skin imperfections and create a mattified, super clear complexion.

  • TEAOXI® Technology (Eucalyptus Leaf Powder): Delivers natural eucalyptol, natural linalool oil, and powerful flavonoids to soothe and treat skin.
  • K17 and Mediterranean Clays: Detoxify, refine skin texture, and balance problem-prone skin.
  • Bamboo Charcoal: Provides balanced replenishment to the skin with essential bamboo minerals.
  • Black Cumin Seed Extract: Provides antimicrobial and antioxidant properties to help provide a more clear complexion.

Ingredients: Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Kaolin, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate, Nigella Sativa Seed Extract, Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Carbon (Bamboo Charcoal), Propanediol, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Powder, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Lactic Acid, Glycolic Acid, Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance, Linalool, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin  cosDNA.com analysis

Elizabeth and James Nirvana White Perfume  This line of perfume is by Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen (yep, the Olsen twins) and Nirvana White is a floral blend of peony, muguet and musk.  I rather like their Black version (violet, sandalwood, vanilla) better, as this one is too floral and too strong for me.   Sample .07 oz RV $5.15

Well, what did I think of the very first Sephora Play! box?  It is a pretty good value ~ I paid $10.00 + sales tax (so it was still under $10.50 or something like that) and I received a RV of $39.41!  I really am excited over the Glam Glow (as it is a great product) and I will try out the Ole product, despite its scent.   The makeup is pretty solid, even with the smudging eyeliner ~ I will use it when I want to create a smokey eye and the hair oil will be used. The only product I didn’t like was the perfume as it is too floral and strong (I have a headache now from testing it) ~ I am pretty picky about perfumes anyway, so that it isn’t a surprise

I think Sephora Play! is going to give Ipsy and Birchbox a run for their money ~ Sephora has access to LOTS of vendors and samples, from inexpensive to lux items and I am pretty excited to see what they will have in the future.  Did you get this month’s Sephora Play! Box?  What did you think of it and what was your favorite item?
