Unboxing July 2015 Herbal Bliss Co!

I am really addicted to my Herbal Bliss Co subscription service and I wait for this box with great anticipation!   I think they are a unique subscription and I cannot explain it exactly, but the products speak to me on a deeper level.  I know that sounds corny, but I love learning about herbs and traditional uses from them.   What is Herbal Bliss Co?

Herbal Bliss enjoys reaching out to the diverse herbal suppliers throughout the USA to bring you five unique samples each month. Our sample categories are Aromatherapy, Blissful Body, Culinary, Well Being and a Spotlight product. Each of our suppliers thoughtfully grows, harvest, and packages to bring you delightful experiences into your home. Herbal Bliss is thrilled to introduce you to a multi-faceted experience each month.

  • Passionate About Small Batches ~ Our suppliers are often growing their herbs, creating their recipes, and building their shop fronts on their family farm. You are receiving special, handcrafted gifts from nature without bias to one supplier over another.
  • Discover Herbs ~ Herbal products are one of the fastest growing consumer products. Why is that? People are wary of chemical, laboratory products that have who knows what effect on our body systems. We want to put natural products in our bodies and on our skin & hair. We want to read a label and not only be able to pronounce the ingredients, but know what they are
  • Education ~ Herbs can be intimidating. Herb shops are usually very helpful, but sometimes you may be afraid to ask questions because other customers seem so well informed. Most people know that you should not ingest herbs for ailments without speaking to your doctor first, but there are many other questions about the use of herbs. Herbs are from the earth and have uses beyond what you think of everyday and we are here to help introduce those uses and the makers of these gifts. We bring education for each category.  (source)

Herbal Bliss offers (per box) a month-to-month sub at $25.00, 3 month sub at $22.00, 6 month sub at $20.00 and a yearly sub at $18.00 per box.

Wild Herb Soap Co Sweet Orange Natural Laundry Detergent    Okay, it is laundry detergent.  I do wash my clothes (haha), so it is something I will use.  But when I opened this bag of detergent, I was swept away!  This stuff smells so WONDERFUL.  You all know my obsession with citrus scents ~ and this 100% natural laundry detergent smells like sweet oranges.   This has chucks of natural soap in it as well and has a low sudsing formula.  This sample looks to be good for at least 3 loads, as I only need one tablespoon per load.   I am really loving this scent and I will use it tomorrow when I do a load of laundry.  This is fairly inexpensive (to me, at least), and if this works out well, I will be purchasing a larger size.  Deluxe Sample 4 oz Value $2.18

Description: Simple, clean and pure! Powerful concentrate laundry soap is gentle enough for baby clothes and other delicate items, yet packs a punch to get out stains. Orange scent is obtained through adding Sweet Orange essential oil to the concentrate. Sweet Orange oil is known for it’s stain fighting properties. Powder form with shredded Wild Herb natural soap is a low-sudsing formula. Safe for all machines, including HE.  Perfect solution for the healthy conscious family! No need to use harsh chemicals. Wild Herb Soap’s laundry detergent is, of course, 100% natural. You will not find any perfume scents. Only the light aroma of the organic essential oils that is used in our soap bars!  It doesn’t take much of this concentrated detergent to get your clothes clean. . . . including diapers! Just 1 tablespoon for top loaders; 2 tablespoons for front loaders!

Ingredients: Wild Herb natural soap, sodium tetraborate (borax), washing soda, baking soda, sweet orange essential oil

Circa Soap Apothecary Milk & Honey Bubble Biscuit  The info card states Lavender, but I received Milk & Honey ~ and I am pretty happy about this scent!  It does have a honey scent to it and this is a moisturizing bath “bomb” that you place in your bathtub  and it will bubble and moisturize at the same time.  I think these are very similar to Haus of Gloi’s Butterbombs (those are made with mango butter too!)   Mango butter is very hydrating and rich in vitamins to nourish your skin.    This seems to be a brick and mortar store, located in Wimberley, Texas.   The online presence has some of their items, but this product is not in their catalog.   I wonder if Bubble Biscuits are new to Circa Apothecary?  At any rate, I look forward to using this, as if it is anything like HoG Butterbomb’s, I will really enjoy it.   1 Bubble Biscuit Value $3.00 – $4.00 ??

The Herb Room Lemon & Ginger Herbal Tea  This is another product from Wimberley, Texas.   This lovely herbal tea has a vibrant lemongrass, citrus and spice scent to it and just tastes lovely!  It really has a good zingy taste to it, with its ginger and citrus flavors, plus the warmth of coriander and cinnamon.  I never had a tea made from chicory either!   I really love how this tea looks too ~ interesting textures and different shapes, with the bright burst of color from hibiscus flowers.   Alas, The Herb Room doesn’t really have an online shop presence, but they seem to take orders over the phone and they also update their FB page quite a bit, with sales and seasonal items.   1 oz  Value  $5.00??

Ingredients: organic roasted chicory root, organic ginger root, organic orange peel, organic lemongrass, organic lemon essential oil, organic hibiscus flowers, organic coriander seed, organic cinnamon chips

In the Weeds Fig & Wild Berry Lip Balm   Look how cute this is!  I love the sliding rectangular tin and the lip balm is housed inside.  The design reminds me of Skinfood’s Cheek & Lip tint products.  The product looks like it would be a berry color, but it is untinted.  The scent is so luscious ~ the combination of fig and berries makes this smell like plums to me!  The balm has a nice sheen to it and  the slim tin case makes this easy to carry and fit into a smaller purse or backpack.   In the Weeds only uses 100% therapeutic grade essential oils and USDA Certified Organic ingredients.   They did not have the ingredient list for this product, but I did find another lip balm that had a list, so I am thinking that this lip balm has 100% natural almond oil, beeswax, shea butter, extra virgin coconut oil, vitamin E and a blend of essential oils with 100% natural flavoring.   In the Weeds creates their products either in McAllen or San Antonio, TX and the owner is an esthetician.  Their products are hand-made, eco-friendly, no animal testing and no parabens are included in their line.   Follow their FB page for deals and promo codes! Full Size .25 oz Value $7.00

Owens Acres Edible Flower Garden Seed Kit  I wish I had a garden!  This is such a cool idea ~ these are seeds that will grow into herbs and flowers that you can harvest and use for recipes!  Salads, teas, desserts, use as spices, this mix of bachelor buttons, calendula, chrysanthemum, cilantro, dames rocket, dill, marigolds, nasturtiums, red clover and sunflower seeds are nutritious, tasty and full of antioxidants.  After your plants have been harvested, you can save the seeds to use for next year.  My mom has a green thumb and loves to cook, so I will send her these.  She will really love them, as she is such a gardener!  I love that there is a little informational flyer included, explaining about the seeds and how to use them.    Full Size  Value $5.95

Owens Acres Sweet Dreams Sleep Salve  Another product from Owens Acres!  I am so happy that both of the tins from Owens Acres were sealed along the side with tape, to prevent any accidents.  The tins are screw top, but with packing and shipping, things do happen.  Anyway, Owens Acres makes several types of salves, including a headache balm, neem & tea tree salve, rosacea salve, salves for pregnant women (for stretchmarks), nursing mothers, and so on.  This one is a salve to help you fall asleep ~ I did use it last night, and it does work!  This is a thick oily olive oil/beeswax balm, infused with herbs such as rosemary, spearmint, lavender and valerian and you just dab a bit on your temples and rub it in, about 30 minutes before bedtime.   I felt tired and sleepy and probably fell asleep faster than normal ~ I do suffer from insomnia, so I was more aware about how this made me feel.     The ingredients are non-addictive.

This DOES stink.  Really does.  At first, I was like ~ Really?  Has this gone bad?  The ingredient list, with the herbs that I am familiar with, should have been a pleasant scent.  However, I was not familiar with valerian ~ this is the herb that contains the properties to help you fall asleep.  I google’d for what it smelled like and yep, this is the offending herb!!  The scent has been described as a “sewer”, “a bit like dog doo doo”,  “strange odor”, “cow manure”, “ancient gym locker”,  “old socks”,  “reeks”, “putrid” and of course, “smells awful” …. Even the ancient Greeks had something to say about this herb ~ they called it “phu” (pronounced “phew”)!!

However, all of those descriptions were followed by IT WORKS and it is a great herb!   Good valerian, quality valerian is supposed to smell this way.   Fortunately,  I rub this on my temples and not under my nose ~ hahaha ~ and the smell quickly disappears.  And it does work, so I will continue using it when I need help sleeping.   Don’t be scared of this product🙂   I do need to hide this from my cats, because valerian is related to catnip and supposedly cats LOVE valerian even more than catnip.  They didn’t attack my head last night, so maybe they didn’t notice it (yet)   2 oz tin  Value $12.95

Description: Contains sleep inducing herbs and essential oils to help you relax and drift off to sleep naturally. Rub on to back on neck, temples and forehead,  about 20 minutes before bed.

Ingredients: Rosemary, Spearmint, Calendula, Sage, Lavender, Valerian, Lemon Balm, Olive Oil, Beeswax

Herbal Bliss Co curated another great box this month.  I really am looking forward to trying the detergent, as it smells so great and the butter bath biscuit (maybe this weekend!).  I’ve already tried the tea ~ yummy ~ and lip balm.  The sleeping salve really does work for me and my mom will enjoy the edible garden kit.  paid $22.00 for my box as I am on a 3 month-subscription and received a value around $37.00.

Do you subscribe to Herbal Bliss?  If you love eco-friendly, unique products, you need to try out this subscription ~ it keeps getting better and better each month!   Are you interested in this subscription and what products do you want to try out?
