Unboxing Spring 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox!

I love Jouer cosmetics ~ Birchbox introduced me to their line about 3 1/2 years ago or so, with the famous Luminizing Moisture Tint.   That was a very nice product, but as I have oily skin, I only used it as a highlighter (I don’t need that much luminizing!)  Then, BB sent me out another sample of what I thought was the same item from Jouer ~ I tossed it to the side, forgot about it and then noticed it was different.   It was the Matte Moisture Tint in Nude.  I put some on my hand and I thought, wow, this is YELLOW.   However, as I blended it into my skin, it matched it perfectly, giving me good coverage.   It is so rare to find a good concealer that isn’t pink/cool toned.  Nude is called nude, but it is really nude for warm toned skin types.

So, I tried it on my face and this product just melts into my skin, gliding smoothly and providing just enough coverage ~ I don’t have perfect skin, but I don’t hate it either.  I just needed something to even it out a bit, without feeling like I had tons of foundation on my face.   A little goes a LONG way too!  My face didn’t feel greasy and this helped tone down the shine ~ not all the way, but enough for me to be a convert.  I’ve been using this product now for over 3 years, along with Mac NW20 Studio Finish (my finishing powder) and for those days when I do need more coverage, Mac NW20 Studio Tech.   I’ve included swatches of these products at the end of the blog post, so you can compare the shades yourself. Jouer, however, is my go-to daily foundation.  That is why I haven’t converted to BB creams ~ nothing compares to this product.   If you have dry skin, I recommend getting the Luminizing product as the Matte might be too dry for you.  If you have normal skin, you can get both and even mix them together.    This product also has some SPF in it (SPF15) as well.

I then started on a journey with Jouer ~ I own their blushes, lipsticks, eyeshadows and of course, the repeat HG product for me, the Matte Moisture Tint.  When I learned that Jouer was doing a subscription box, called Le Matchbox, I had to get it and I am so excited that it is finally here!

What is Jouer Le Matchbox

A quarterly beauty subscription box, tailored just for you. No more guessing which colors are right, Jouer delivers the perfect products right to your doorstep. Each selection is determined by responses to our quiz, providing you with an assortment of full size Jouer essentials most flattering for your coloring and suitable for your skin type. Each curated box is accompanied by a mini magazine providing product details and application tips. Jouer delivers the most advanced skincare benefits, effortlessly luxurious colors, in smart on-the-go packaging. Whether you’re an experienced makeup artist, a makeup addict or need an uncomplicated way to select the right formulas and shades for effortless beauty, Le Matchbox is for you.

Jouer walks you through a little quiz to help you determine your skin tone ~ cool or warm ~ and you can then subscribe for $45.00 per quarter (it automatically renews) or a one time $65.00 box.  You can select from cool, warm or let Jouer choose for you.   The value of this box is at least $150.00.  Interested?  You can subscribe here  Make sure you register FIRST before you order, however, as they do have a glitch in their system.   Also, I find that if you need customer service, it is better to call their toll-free number instead of using email.

I am warm toned, so I went with that selection.  Let’s see what I received!  The box is a lovely pale, pale pink box with a gold border and has a ribbon tie in the front.  When I opened it, it was full of lovely items, surrounded by white and gold paper crinkles.   So festive ~ I felt like I was opening up a birthday gift!

This box also came with a nice pamphlet, explaining the products and even listing out the ingredients at the back of the booklet.

Mineral Powder Blush in Peach Bouquet   This is a beautiful golden peachy shimmer blush ~ just lovely for summertime!  This has pearl powder, mica, quartz and gold to give a radiant glow and Japanese green tea powder, vitamins A, C and E for anti-aging benefits to help against free radical damage.   This mineral, oil free powder is so smooth and silky and while it is pigmented, it is a soft shade, with little fallout.   It looks so bright in the pan, but it really is a glowing soft peach shade.   All swatches will be at the end of this blog post. Full Size .27 oz  $26.00

Crème Eyeshadow Crayon in Renaissance   I have bright aqua green-blue eyes and Renaissance is a perfect color for my eye color.  It is a bronzed plum shimmer eye crayon that has a pearl finish (not glitter!)  This is fast drying and has a built in sharpener ~ it is located at the other end of the crayon and you just pull it out.  The crayon itself is a twist up product and you would only need to sharpen if you wanted to use this to do a precision definition.   Jouer’s Eyeshadow crayons are waterproof, crease resistant, paraben free and dermatologist tested.    Full Size 2 grams Value $24.00

Hydrating Lipstick in Meredith  Meredith is described as a creamy nude pink and it is a lovely warm toned and translucent pink color, that can be built up.  This works as a great lip color for days when you don’t really want to fuss too much over your makeup.  This hydrating lipstick has Brazilian Cupuaçu Butter and other seed derived oils, which makes this almost like a lip balm.  The smooth texture and deep moisturizing does remind me of Starlooks Tenderglosses.   Full Size 3.5 grams Value $24.00

Ingredients: RICINUS COMMUNIS (CASTOR) SEED OIL, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAISOSTEARATE, KAOLIN, ISOSTEARYL ISOSTEARATE, PHYTOSTERYL OLEATE, HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE, POLYETHYLENE, POLYISOBUTENE, EUPHORBIA CERIFERA (CANDELILLA) WAX, ETHYLHEXYL METHOXYCINNAMATE, BEESWAX, OZOKERITE, ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, LUFFA CYLINDRICA (SEED) OIL, THEOBROMA GRANDIFLORUM SEED BUTTER, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, RETINYL PALMITATE, METHYLPARABEN, ETHYLPARABEN, BUTYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, ISOBUTYLPARABEN, SILICA. Flat Kabuki Brush This is a lovely little Kabuki brush with a flat edge.  This works nicely with the blush in this box ~ it is really nice that Jouer included a brush to go with their products!  You can use this with blush, bronzer or an all over highlighter.  Full Size Value $14.00

Travel Eyelash Curler OMGosh, this is so cute.  This unfolds to a full size eyelash curler.  You just gently put your eyelashes in the medieval torture device and press the little button on the front, instead of having to squeezing the curler shut by using your fingers on a clamp ~ like with other eyelash curlers.   That way, there is less chance of movement with the curler and the eyelashes ~ because I am sure we all have pinched or yanked eyelashes when our hands moved a bit with the clamping action.  It really is easy and it doesn’t pinch or hurt ~ plus it does work!   This is not available at Jouer right now, but I saw that it did retail for $14.00

Jouer Perfume Oil  I am glad this is a sample size.  This is the only product I cannot use in the box, due to the jasmine in it.  My mom will like this, so this will go into her Mother Day’s box 🙂

Description:  Bursting with heady notes of jasmine, Jouer’s signature scent has the ability to instantly lift our spirits. A single whiff conjures up images of fragrant botanical gardens.  The rollerball scent is a fragrant blend of jasmine, gardenia, and honeysuckle notes that’s feminine and fresh.

Ingredients: SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL,C10-30 CHOLESTEROL/LANOSTEROL ESTERS,FRAGRANCE (PARFUM),PROPYLENE GLYCOL,GLYCERIN,LONICERA CAPRIFOLIUM (HONEYSUCKLE)FLOWER EXTRACT,TOCOPHEROL ACETATE,TOCOPHEROL,BUTYLPHENYL METHYLPROPIONAL,LINALOOL,CITRONELLOL,LIMONENE,CITRAL,GERANIOL

Daily Repair Treatment Oil  Since my quiz asked me if I had oily or dry skin, I was hoping that they would have tailored the box with this product.  The other facial oil Jouer offers is for oily skin and it is the Daily Clarifying Treatment Oil, which has neem and lemon tea tree oil in it ~ perfect for oily skin types.  Alas, I got this oil.  It is really nice and full of moisturizing and antioxidant ingredients, such as jojoba oil, rice oil, sunflower oil, cotton oil, rosehip oil and also has vitamin E in it too.  I did do a patch test on my arm and it is a very rich oil and despite the claim that all skin types can use it, I am not sure I want to put this on my face.   I just got my acne under control (and I am not young either!).  If this was for all skin types, then why create a Clarifying version that is specifically designed for oily skin?   I can use this on my neck and décolletage area  Full Size 1 oz Value $48.00

Description:  An advanced complexion oil formulated with Revinage™,a bioretinol complex that mimics the positive effects of a Retinol, without the harsh side effects. Rose Hip Oil delivers antioxidant protection, while Starflower Oil quenches and helps to rejuvenate the skin, providing optimal hydration benefits. The result is skin that appears smoother, firmer, and more resilient.

Ingredients: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Bidens Pilosa Extract, Borago Officinalis (starflower) Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Elaeis Guineensis (Palm) Oil, Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Seed Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides (sea buckthorn) Oil, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Linum Usitatissimum (Linseed) Seed Oil, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Rosa Canina (rose hip) Seed Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Salvia Hispanica (chia) Seed Oil, Tocopherol  cosDNA.com analysis

All in all, I am really happy with my first Jouer Le Matchbox, despite that they didn’t match up on my skin type for the oil.  I am sure they will get feedback on this from their customers ~ I know I plan to let them know that they should try to follow their own description of the service “Le Matchbox, a curated collection of Jouer goodies personalized for your skin tone and type.”   They did very well with the skin tone with the makeup products and I am really pleased to have them, plus the tools too!  The oil won’t go to waste, as I can use it on other parts of my body other than my face.  I will be purchasing the Clarifying Oil at Birchbox once I get a few more points under my belt there 🙂 I have almost 300 in points and the oil is $48.00, so I hope to get to the magic 300, so that the oil will only cost me $18.00 at Birchbox ~ I do love their point system!   I paid $45.00 for this box and the total value, excluding the perfume sample, is $150.00 on the nose!  Great deal.

Did you get the Spring 2015 Jouer Le Matchbox?  What colors did you get?  How do you like this first box by Jouer?
