My second Flicker Box! Flicker Box is a candle subscription, and I loveeee candles. This month’s theme was a voters choice ~ Flicker Box asked on their FB page if customers wanted an Oregon themed candle box or a Beeswax ~ I had voted for Beeswax, but the popular vote won ~ This month’s theme is Oregon ~ all vendors are located in Oregon, USA! And Flicker Box did add a Beeswax candle selection in here, so that was fantastic!
What is Flicker Box?

From top, going clockwise: Vance Family Soy Candles “Keep Portland Weird”, Lit & Co “Cascade Hops”, Beeswax Candle Works Votives, Oak Street Soap & Candles “Rain” tealights
Vance Family Soy Candles “Keep Portland Weird” ~ Okay, props for the best name ever in a candle! Who can resist a candle like that? The smell is AMAZING. I feel like I am going to eat some great Thai Coconut dish ~ I can really smell the coconut and lemongrass and I love those two scents together. Even with my stuffed up nose (thank you sinusitis), I can really smell this delightful scent. I feel like I should be ordering some Thai Coconut shrimp right now ~ haha Value $12.99
“Support over 6 local businesses with your purchase of a Keep Portland Weird candle! Thanks for keeping it weird and buying local! 10% of sales go to Oregon Music Hall of Fame which promotes music education in Oregon Schools. KPW candle made in collaboration with Music Millennium – the copyright holder for the phrase. Candle smells amazing (but slightly weird!) – lemongrass, spices, orange, patchouli and coconut! 6 oz. tin “
Lit & Co “Cascade Hops” ~ What classy packaging. Very simple, gold tin with black logo. Lit & Co is an etsy vendor and this creamy colored candle is 100% soy, and has a bright grapefruit scent and I can smell the cedarwood and pine lurking behind the citrus tone. I love citrus scents and am glad to see two of them in my box this month. Value $12.00
“Cascade Hops – the bright, fresh yet slightly bitter scent of pine, grapefruit rind and cedar blended together for a truly unique scent for the beer lover! A member of the Lit&Co. household loves to make delicious IPAs in his spare time and loves the scent of Cascade hops. Fresh, citrusy, herbal, a little bitter – just like the gorgeous hops that make the beer! Phthalate free. 8oz candle with clean, 45 hour burn. Tin container is perfect for travel or simply enjoying at home!
WHY SOY? Soy is longer-lasting and cleaner-burning than paraffin; this means a longer burning candle with no carbon soot on your walls and ceilings and no toxins being thrown into the air you breathe. Soy is renewable, biodegradable (unlike petroleum-based paraffin), and helps create economic growth for American farmers.
THE CANDLES Each candle is completely hand crafted using only the highest quality ingredients. Pure fragrance, cotton braided wicks and 100% pure soybean wax made with botanical oils combine to make an exceptional, long-lasting candle. The candles are poured into glass and tin containers that can be refilled multiple times to encourage recycling.”
Beeswax Candle Works Votive ~ I received two beautiful amber-honey colored votive candles made from 100% beeswax from Beeswax Candle Works. These candles look to be the 20 hour burn time, due to their height of 2.25 inches. You can purchase the votives in packs to save more money. Now, I am not sure if it my cold or not, but these seem to have an earthy scent to them (at least to me). They are a beautiful color and I cannot wait to burn them. Value $7.00 (2 votives)
“Since the beeswax votive makes a liquid pool of wax as the wick burns, the votive needs to be burned in a votive container. Burn continuously for a minimum of four hours to prevent tunneling and to burn most of the beeswax over the life of the votive. Our large votives have a burn time of approximately 20 hours each and a size of 2.25″ tall x 1.75″ wide and are slightly tapered. Our 20-hour votives are composed only of 100% pure natural beeswax with a cotton wick.“
Oak Street Soap & Candles “Rain” ~ These soy tea lights are handmade in Portland Oregon, and I receive a 4 pack of their vegan candles. I love using tea lights in the spring and summer on my balcony as I can scatter them around for a more diffused light. These have a nice fresh scent that does remind me of water. Oak Street is another etsy vendor. Value $4.00
“These tea light candles were made in honor of the rainy place we call home – Portland, OR! Smells like that moment when you first open the door to the moist smell of fresh air, crisp water and soggy earth. This listing is for four tea light candles in a deep blue color. Made from 100% soy wax for a cleaner burning candle and hand poured into plastic tea light cups. Vegan friendly!”
I am really pleased with this month’s box ~ grapefuit-pine-cedarwood candle, coconut-lemongrass candle, beewax votives and a lovely set of watery tealights, all made in Oregon! I paid $34.00 for my box and received a value of $35.99. I don’t expect to get a huge difference between what I pay and what the value I receive, as these are handcrafted artisan candles and just like my Sudsy Box Soap subscription, the value to me is in the uniqueness of these products, the scents and supporting made in the USA small businesses.
Flickerbox also has a store, where you purchase candles that were featured in their past boxes.
