Memebox Special #78 Dirty Gal Review

One of the forums I belong to,, has a dedicated section to all things Memebox and there is a long running thread where people have made suggestions there (Memebox does read these forums!)  One of my fellow posters there, Jane, who is a wonderful vblogger ( and blogger ( , had made this suggestion there and also emailed Memebox about it.

Is there any chance of getting a dirty girl box with products to get you dirty before you get clean like mud, seaweed and clay masks, charcoal cleansers and things the mayo hair pack? ~~ Jane

When Memebox came out with a box called Dirty Gal, I knew where the inspiration came from!  I purchased it because I love mud, seaweed, clay, charcoal masks and hoped the Memebox would follow thru with Jane’s ideas 🙂

Informational Card

As these products are unknown to me and perhaps even to my readers, I am posting a description of the product under my thoughts for every product.  Normally, I just do a snippet or if it is a product that doesn’t really need a description, I won’t post it.  But for the purposes of my Memeboxes, I will make sure I find the appropriate description, usage and ingredient list if I can find it.   The descriptions will be from the webpage that is linked to the product name.  Not all of these products are sold in the Memebox Shop, so I had to look for them on various sites.   I really had a hard time finding these products, by the way, so don’t be thrown off by the Korean websites that are linked here!

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box is that something was leaking and left it sticky tracks on a couple of items, including the Donkey Oil box and the Memecard…

Dr MJ Real Mucin Restore Cream  This was one of the spoilers for the box and I was debating at this time if I should cancel the box or not.  The first spoiler, which is the B&Soap item, was very promising but this item was not.   I do not think snails are dirty and this product is something many Memebox fans are familiar with ~ a snail facial cream.  I will use it, as I really like Dr MJ products, but I feel this item is out of place in this box.   This was the product that had leaked.  I was surprised as when I opened it up, it did have a seal.   However, maybe due to the extreme temperature changes, the fact that this box took a LONG time to get to me and was probably sitting in some ice-cold customs warehouse in New York City caused the edge of the seal to pop and some of the product escaped.  I can tell you, this stuff is sticky!!  I was scraping off gummy dried remains on my Memecard 😉   Full Size 50 g Value  $46.00

B&Soap Mamie Blue This product has been affectionately dubbed the Smurf Mask, but in Korea, they market it as the Avatar mask ~ lol  This is a bit dry and not smooth, so the instructions for this product will not really work.  I added some warm water and I was able to create a good consistency with it.  It has a really nice refreshing minty scent to it due to the peppermint and this product also contains calendula , which helps soothe sensitive, tired skin;  deep sea water to provide rich moisture and hydration.  This mask will remove dead skin cells and unclog pores of any impurities, absorbs excess oil, tightens pores and is an anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory mask.  This is a purifying, deep cleaning detox mask, specifically formulated for those with oily or combination leaning towards oily skin.  It does not contain talc or paraben.   Mamie Blue is all natural and handmade and does have a valid short shelf life due to its ingredients and lack of preservatives ~ once opened, it should be used in 4 months time.  This does remind me of Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty, only blue, not green.   In fact, not only is the packaging similar, but so are the ingredients ~ I’ve posted them below for comparison.   Full Size 130 g Value $29.00

Those little seeds are the Aduki  beans!

  • Top: Freshly applied and thinned out with water (maybe too much water)
  • Bottom: After 1o minutes

Product Description:  Nothing heightens the skin’s natural metabolic processes better than this densely textured, smooth gliding, and terrifically energizing “Smurf facial mask”.  Slap this blue paste onto skin to clear away dead, tired skin cells while literally vacuuming up all impurities. Infused with invigorating peppermint, soothing evening  primrose oil, and more, this facial mask is excellent for all skin types and ages.

How To Use:  Apply mask on freshly cleansed face for 10-15 minutes, then wash off, using massaging motion.

Ingredients: Calendula, Kaolin, Honey, Red (Aduki ~Phaseolus angularis) beans, Evening Primrose, Mint, Deep Ocean Water, Brazil Coconut, Bentonite

For Comparison ~ Lush’s Mask of Magnaminty ingredients: Bentonite Gel , Kaolin , Honey (Mel) , Talc , Ground Aduki Beans (Phaseolus) , Glycerine , Evening Primrose Seeds (Oenothera biennis) , Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita) , African Marigold Oil (Tagetes erecta) , Fair Trade Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla Planifolia) , *Limonene , Fragrance , Methylparaben , Chlorophyllin

Estetic House Mayo Pack  This was one of the items on Jane’s “wish” list so I am happy for her that Memebox did include it.  I stay away from these types of hair packs, as I have fine, limp, oily hair and do not need to have even more limp and oilier hair.  This is great for those who have dry and damaged hair.  It contains eggs, shea butter and olive oil in it.  Full Size 120 mL Value $12.00

Product Description: An easy-to-use hair mask inspired from mayonnaise – famous hair home remedy – to make hair soft, elastic, moist, nourished and to prevent excess hair tangles

How To Use:  Gently squeeze excess water from clean, wet hair.  Apply and spread product thoroughly over hair.  Leave in for 3 minutes and rinse off with lukewarm water.

Pure Smile Muddy Girl Randomly selected from Mud, Pearl, Kaolin (Clay)  Really Memebox?  You couldn’t give us 3 of them, but just 2 out of the 3?  I am only bitter sounding because so far, this box hasn’t had a lot of cleansing products.   This is the other item that I am really excited about.  They are wash-off mud packs  and I received the Mud and Kaolin (Clay) types and I am so pleased with that!  I am not a Pearl type of person.   I am including all 3 of the mud pack types here for those who might get a different configuration.  The key ingredients for all three of these packs are hyaluronic acid and bentonite, which is clay.   Full Size 15 x 2each Value $2.00

Cleomee Natural Donkey Oil I am a bit disappointed by this addition to the Dirty Gal box.  I would have rather had facial packs than this.  This is the most expensive item in the box and I will not use it as I do prefer lotions on my body than oil.  Again, what is dirty about this?  Donkey’s aren’t dirty.   This is an oil that you use after your body is nice and clean.  If you have dry skin or prefer oils to lotions, this is a good one to try, as it is made with lots of nice ingredients besides the donkey oil ~ sunflower oil, grape seed oil, olive oil and jojoba oil, just to name a few.   I did a bit of research and found a paper written on the virtues of mare’s milk oil, so I will assume that donkey’s milk oil is very similar.   You can read the full document by clicking here ~ I have screen shot the pertinent slide of the document:

MemeCard states that it can be used as both a facial and body oil.   Full Size 80mL Value $83.00

Ingredients: donkey oil, sunflower seed oil, olive oil, grape seep oil, macadamia intergrifolia seed oil, jojoba oil, argania spinosa kernal oil, donkey milk, bixa orellana seed oil, tocopherol, yeast/caragana sinica root extract, purified water, butylene glycol, herbs

How do I feel about this box?  Well, based on Jane’s original request, I do feel that two of the items here did not really relate to her request ~ the snail cream and donkey oil.  However, whereas I will use the snail cream, the donkey oil will not, but fear not my friends, it has found a wonderful home where it will be loved and used!  I wish they would have given us some “jam” or “honey” products ~ PureSmile makes some great jam wash off masks and there are honey scrubs that are a sticky, gooey mess too.  Missing are the seaweed and charcoal items too.   I expected a box of cleansers and facial packs.

This box only gets a 2.5 out of a possible 5 for being a “Dirty Gal” ~ I took 1/2 point off on the Blue Mamie mask, as it is obvious that it is dried out.  This was an expensive box, clocking in at $32.00 plus $6.99 shipping for a total of $38.99.     The Donkey Oil takes up half of the box cost wise (and I don’t think Donkey’s are dirty, btw…), and I am just not sure it is worth it, when it is a 5 item box with two single-use items.   I am probably one of the few bloggers out there that isn’t wow’d by this box ~ but I love being a rebel!

I received a MemeValue ** of $172.00.  ** What is MemeValue?  It is my term to describe the value that Memebox puts on the products, which can be very over inflated.  You can usually find these products at a lesser cost, so I do suggest researching first if you wish to purchase them.

  1. The centrifuging technique by which the mare milk oil is made is the same technique that we Indians use to make ghee (clarified butter) from cow and buffalo milk. I hope that donkey oil is also made in the same manner. However, there is no way of knowing for sure since there is not much information available. I have requested Memebox to find out more about this from their Korean ingredients department. Let’s see what they have to say about it.

    1. Let me know what you find out! If you post it on your blog, you can post your blog link here for my readers to follow 🙂 I am very interested in knowing what donkey oil is – is it the rendered fat (like horse oil) or is it donkey milk oil, which is totally different….

  2. Hi, and Merry Christmas
I just pulled out my Cleomee Donkey Oil and used it and decided to maybe help this dilemma of ” What is it for?” out a bit.
I have the box and I know Memebox markets the oil as a facial oil..
However, and to me this is a BIG however- the Cleomee oil is NOT facial oil at all. There is a sticker stuck onto the box AND the bottle- peel it off and it clearly states ” Body Oil”.
While the face is technically part of ” the body”, we know in cosmetic lingo what the difference is..

I will only use this product on my feet and legs. It’s a body oil and my legs love this stuff after shaving. My feet love it every night. 🙂
Please consider that Memebox may have made some after- market ” changes” or Cleomee may have been requested to market this oil to Memebox customers as a facial oil, but IMO, it definitely belongs on body skin. 🙂

I freaking love my Dirty Gal box so much that I have a restock coming- but the Mamie Blue mask is way too strong for me. BTW, the color is from a specific blue that Mamie Eisenhower first made popular. 🙂
Kind of like ” Alice pink”, or sometimes ” Alice mauve” made famous by the Pres. Teddy Roosevelt family.
Interesting to see how ” Mamie Blue” has evolved into Paris hot spots and musical bands after a generation or more. 🙂
