Unboxing December & Black Friday 2014 Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet!

I am going to review and swatch both my December’s Vanishing Cabinet bag and my Black Friday haul, as they both came on the same day.   This month’s  Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet bag theme is featuring our favorite movie monsters and making sure they get a little love this holiday season!  For those who are not aware of what Notoriously Morbid is, they are an indie beauty company, specializing in eyeshadows and lippies, and it is $12.90 a month.  .   Every month, more slots are available, so follow their facebook page and also their facebook group to learn more about deals and when new collections are available!   I will apologize for the quality of the swatches.  For whatever reason, I cannot capture the beauty of these eyeshadows properly.  They are just down right gorgeous.

This month’s theme is Merry Monsters!

While the theme is revealed we want it to feel just like Christmas when you receive your goodies this month. We’ve had a jolly good time putting it together for you and making sure it is wrapped just right!

left to right: Rouge for Regan Blush, Choo-Choo for Chucky, Jammies for Jason, Mittens for Michael, Fringe Coat for Freddie, Lipgloss for Leatherface

All of my items were neatly packed in that cute little Christmas Stocking! This is why I love this sub ~ the attention to detail and fun that Carrie and Laura give us monthly.  It is such a great subscription and if the day comes when I cannot use any more makeup, I will probably stay sub’d!!

This month’s VC didn’t have the nice descriptions, so I will try my best to describe the colors.  I am really bad at this!!

Regan ~ The Exorcist

Rouge for Regan ~ This is medium matte dusky mauve shade.  This would be great for contouring and even as an eyeshadow!  The Exorcist still scares the shit out of me even today.  Especially when Regan turns her head around and talks in her demon voice.  I won’t post her demon pic here, as I still get all creeped out by it.

Ingredients: kaolin clay, ultramine, iron oxide, magnesium myristrate.  Vegan: Not Lip Safe

Chucky  ~ Child’s Play

Choo-Choo for Chucky ~ This is a peachy shimmer with pink and gold undertones.  I was never a fan of Chucky ~ little nasty boy-doll with major issues.  Keep that damn knife away from him and give him a train set!

Ingredients: mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, carmine, kaolin clay, carnauba wax.  Not Vegan: Lip Safe

Jason ~ Friday the 13th

Jammies for Jason ~ A shimmery charcoal gray with green and pink sparkles.  This will go well with the Hockey Mask

Ingredients: mica, titanium dioxide, iron oxide, ferric ferrocyanide, kaolin clay, carnauba wax. Vegan: Lip Safe

Michael ~ Halloween

Mittens for Michael ~  A smokey plum shimmer.  Good ol’ Michael Myers ~ he was an original and seemed to start it all off!   He always came back.   He needs some mittens as the weather starts to get really chilly after Halloween 😉

Ingredients: mica, titanium dioxide, ferric ferrocyanide, iron oxide, blue #1, Red #40, ultramarines, tin oxide, magnesium myristate, carmine, kaolin clay, carnauba wax.  Not Vegan: Not Lip Safe

Freddie Kruger ~ A Nightmare on Elm Street

Fringe Coat for Freddie ~ This is the most beautiful color I have seen from VC and my swatches below does not do it justice.  This is a blackened red-brown with golden shimmers.  I’ve always had a soft spot for Freddie, even though he should trim his nails.

Ingredients:  iron oxide, mica, kaolin clay, carnauba wax.  Not Vegan: Not Lip Safe

Leatherface ~ The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Lipgloss for Leatherface ~ This is a blackened plum gloss.  It is amazing.  Too good for Leatherface and I am taking it away from him and running for my life!

Ingredients: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene (and) Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer (and) Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil. May contain: Mica, Silica, Titanium Dioxide, Red #40, Tin Oxide, Iron Oxide.  VEGAN

My favorites are Fringe Coat for Freddie and Lipgloss for Leatherface.  Just really amazing colors that I will get a lot of use out of!

Black Friday Haul

On Black Friday, there was a limited release of a collection called “A Murder of Crows” plus a few re-releases of some popular shades.   I purchased the Crow collection, plus two eyes shadows inspired by the movie, The Craft ~ Water & Intuition and Mother & Earth and a new lipcraft gloss, Sparkle Horse.   I also received a GWP of an amazing eyeshadow called Cermet & Paesh

From left to right, going clockwise:  Lipcraft Sparkle Horse, Water & Intuition, Mother & Earth, Empty Graves, Cermet & Paesh

Sparkle Horse Lipcraft Gloss A dusty mauve with golden sheen in a buidable coverage, Sparkle Horse is the perfect stand alone gloss or can be paired with your favorite lipstick.”  I love this color ~ it is a sheer gloss, and it has brown undertones.  It also, for some reason, smells like maple syrup to me.  I have no idea why.

Ingredients: Hydrogenated Polyisobutene (and) Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer (and) Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Prunus armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil. May contain: Mica, Silica, Titanium Dioxide, Red #40, Tin Oxide, Iron Oxide. **VEGAN

Water & Intuition  “Another of our Vanishing Cabinet Exclusive shadows brought back by our customers in The Crypt, Water & Intuition is from the June VC, inspired by the film, The Craft.  A vibrant, ocean green with aqua blue shimmer.”  This is an amazing color ~ It really is a beautiful deep aqua with blue green shimmers.

Ingredients: Magnesium myristrate, mica, titanium dioxide, ferric ferrocyanide, tin oxide, chromium oxide green, ultramarine.  **Vegan***NOT lip safe

Mother & Earth  Another of our Vanishing Cabinet Exclusive shadows brought back by our customers in The Crypt, Mother & Earth is from the June VC, inspired by the film, The Craft. A muddy brown with mutiple green shimmers and glitters, topped with gold sparkles.”  This is a dark brown, almost black eyeshadow with so many flashes of greens and golds in it.

Ingredients: Mica, titanium dixode, silica, ferric ferrocyanide, ultramarine, iron oxide, magnesium stearate. **Vegan***Not lip safe

Empty Graves eyeshadow ~ this is a warmer toned silver shadow that has plummy undertones.  Very nice and I wonder if this is a sneak peak into a new collection?

BF GWP Cermet & Paesh ~ A beautiful cool toned silver eyeshadow that is just so pigmented and shimmery.   It has wonderful iridescence qualities to it.  This was in a square jar, which just leaked all over my other items.  I still have quite a bit of eyeshadow here, as a little goes a long way.  I hope this will be part of their permanent collection.

Again, I apologize for the shitty swatches.   That is why I posted NM’s official swatch photos, as they do capture the color a lot better than I do.

Under different lighting conditions, using Urban Decay’s eyeshadow primer

  1. Cermet & Paesh
  2. Water & Intuition
  3. Mother & Earth
  4. Empty Graves

Sparkle Horse Lipcraft Gloss (yes, that is eyeshadow primer on my arm…went a little crazy with it)

A Murder of Crows

And now onto A Murder of Crows ~ I really loved the movie The Crow (1994) and was so saddened when Brandon Lee died tragically on set before he could complete the film.   I am a great admirer of his father’s work, the famous Bruce Lee who also died very young.  I am so pleased that NM made a collection around the movie The Crow and I was up at midnight on Black Friday, ordering my set 🙂

“Sometimes, just sometimes, the Crow can bring the soul back and put the wrong things right.”

A Murder Of Crows

Clockwise, left to right: Battalions of Sorrow, It Can’t Rain All the Time, Thirty Hours of Pain, Degrees of Death and Virtue, Nothing Is Trivial

Even the artwork for this collection is unique!

Battalions of Sorrow ~ A dusty white with subtle shimmer in semi matte finish.  This comes off as a creamy nude with mauve undertone.  It is nice to have a semi-matte item. This is great as an all over eyelid color.

Ingredients: Titanium Dioxide, mica, magnesium stearate, lauroyl lysine, iron oxide. **Vegan***Lip Safe

It Can’t Rain All the Time  ~ An iris purple with green hue and teal blue shift.  This is truly a bright iris color with a very strong teal shift.

Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Carmine, Chromium oxide, magnesium stearate, ultramarine, lauroyl lysine.  **Not Vegan***Not Lip Safe

Thirty Hours of Pain ~ A deep, smoky plum with scattered red shimmer in a semi matte finish.  Yep, this is a lovely deep dusky plum with red shimmers.

Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Red #40 Al Lake, Palmitic Acid, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Preservatives, magnesium stearate, lauroyl lysine, iron oxide, ultramarine. **Vegan***Not Lip Safe

Degrees of Death and Virtue ~ This shadow is a blackened teal with green and blue shimmers.  I know this is going to sound weird, but you know how insects, I am thinking of flies at the moment, have that beautiful iridescence black body?  And in the bright sunlight, it flashes all sorts of blues, greens, golds?  I think it is beautiful (the color, not flies ~ lol) and this reminds me of that.  I really love this shadow

Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Oxide, Chromium Oxide Green, Carmine, Titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, carnauba wax, iron oxide, ferric ferrocyanide.  **Not Vegan*** Not Lip Safe

Nothing Is Trivial ~ A light wash of golden illumination in a metallic finish.  This is a very sheer,  light minty green with lots of warmth, due to the golden shimmers.  I really like this color as well, as it would make for a lovely highlighter.

Ingredients: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Silica, Ferric Ferrocyanide. Tin Oxide, Carnauba Wax  **Vegan**Not Lip Safe
