Memebox Special #76 The Empress’s Secrets Review

So, if you have read my Memebox Cleopatra review, you would know that back in late October, Memebox announced a couple of boxes that sounded like they would be sequels to some of the best curated boxes that they have done.   This was the other box in the bundle that I purchased, the Memebox Special #76 The Empress’s Secrets, which sounded very similar to Special #8 Oriental Medicine, which was a fabulous box ~ the description for Oriental Medicine is as follows:

It’s a box fit for royalty! A favorite beauty regimen among Queens in ancient Korea, oriental medicines were used to revitalize and balance exhausted skin, giving them a beautiful and enchanting glow. Designed to improve softness, luster and elasticity, the mystical properties of oriental medicinal extracts leaves skin looking healthy and youthful. Great for all skin types including sensitive skin, oriental medicinal extracts improve the skin’s functions of regeneration, anti-oxidation, anti-inflammation and moisturization.  Discover the key to youth with our enchanting Oriental Medicine Box!

I had thought that The Empress’s Secrets would be Oriental Medicine Part II, and I am eager to have some more ginseng products!

Informational Card

As these products are unknown to me and perhaps even to my readers, I am posting a description of the product under my thoughts for every product.  Normally, I just do a snippet or if it is a product that doesn’t really need a description, I won’t post it.  But for the purposes of my Memeboxes, I will make sure I find the appropriate description, usage and ingredient list if I can find it.   The descriptions will be from the webpage that is linked to the product name.  Not all of these products are sold in the Memebox Shop, so I had to look for them on various sites.   I really had a hard time finding these products, by the way, so don’t be thrown off by the Korean websites that are linked here!

Lime Nature Double Very Moisturizing Cream  Lime Nature Double Very Moisturizing Cream is a fairly new release ~ it was launched in June 2014.  This is a gel-hybrid cream, which is my absolute favorite type of texture for a moisturizer.   The jar is a nice purple glass and when I opened up the jar to look at the cream, I discovered it is lavender in color and has a very fresh scent to it.  It is not completely a watery gel, but it turns to liquid quickly on my skin, with a very cooling sensation and absorbs nicely, leaving my skin feeling very moisturized and hydrated.   I am already a major fan of this gel-cream.   The key ingredients to this cream are

  • organic acai extract ~ euterpe oleracea pulp powder .03%
  • corn flower (centaurea cyanus) water flower
  • camellia sinensis (green tea) leaf water .1%
  • tilia vulgaris (common linden/lime) flower extract

There is some confusion here over the term “lime”.  It is not the lime fruit, but referring to the lime tree (British Isles) which is known as the common linden tree here in the USA.  This is a totally different beast.  I hope to get a list of ingredients from the manufacturer.    Full Size 75 mL Value $39.00

Product Description: Lime Nature Double Very Moisturizing Cream is enriched with acai berry complex and a rich blend of ancient medicinal herbs such as chuanxiong rhizome, peony, licorice root, kudzu rot, portulaca and cornflower.  This gentle, hydrating formula extracted straight from nature delivers rich moisture and nutrients deep down into the skin, locking it in for lasting suppleness and radiance.

Dalokki Facial Scrub  How cute is this packaging?  A rabbit with very human features on it ~ reminds me of something Picasso would paint ~ totally surreal.   This is a very sticky scrub ~ think of cream cheese ~ made from Korean glutinous rice cake.  I did try this out today in the morning.    The Memecard doesn’t tell you this, but do not leave this on your skin for more than 30 seconds.  I don’t have sensitive skin, but I left it on my face for a couple of minutes ~ I was not massaging it in ~  and my face was burning.  I did not experience redness, but while it was on my face and for about 30 minutes afterwards, my face was tingle-y and burning.   So, I am a little surprised that  the MemeCard doesn’t tell you what Daltokki’s product information states ~ 30 seconds and then rinse off.

This product reminds me of Origins Modern Friction, which is made from rice starch, and I have the same reaction with that product as I do with the Daltokki.   It smells similar, a faintly floral/grainy scent, similar texture with the fine grains and the same burning sensation on my face!! lol   I will try this product again and see if it is better if I actually follow what the company states to do and not what the MemeCard neglected to tell me.  I was thinking this would be similar to SkinFood’s Rice Mask, which is supposed to be on your face for 10-11 minutes, which is why I left it on longer.  Full Size 90mL Value $30.00

See the fine particles of rice in the scrub?

How To Use:  Moisten your face with water.  Apply Doltokki Facial Scrub and gently massage with your fingers (no brushes or devices) for about 30 seconds.  Rinse off with warm water and follow with your normal skin care regime

Ingredients:  Water, rice flour, sodium laureth sulfate, glycerin, cocamide MEA (coca polyimide M. yieyi), propylene glycol, acrylate copolymers, polysorbate 20, glycol stearate, titanium dioxide, caprylyl glycol, glyceryl caprylate,  glyceryl laurate, oregano leaf extract, eucalyptus leaf oil, perilla oil, licorice extract, green tea extract, rosemary leaf extract, centella asiatica extract, chamomile flower extract, scutellaria baicalensis root extract, fermented reynoutria elliptica extract, ethanol, butylene glycol, 1,2 hexanediol, octanediol,  tropolone , triethanolamine, sodium chloride, cetyl hydroxyethylcelluclose, disodium EDTA, phenoxyethanol, fragrance

Tosowoong Syn-ake Wrinkle Free Essence  We meet again, at last.  The circle is now complete.” I now have a trilogy of Tosowoong Syn-ake products  ~ I received the mist and lotion in my Elixirs box ~ and now I have the essence…  I am currently using the mist and I have not experienced any negative reactions to it, so I can assume that I will have no issues with the essence.  I really love the ingredients in these products ~ not only does it have the synthetic snake venom (rh-Oligopeptide-1 aka EGF) but it has galactomyces fermets ~ my best friend that Memebox introduced me too ~ raspberry fruit extract and niacinamide.   Totally digging my Syn-ake products and I have succumbed to the Dark Side with these sleek black bottles of evil venom. Full Size 100 mL Value $30.00

soy BIO+ Fermented Lumpoule  This is a repeat from Global 13 and I don’t really mind it, as this is a nice, soothing product that seems to work for all skin types.  Soybean extract is really good for oily skin as a moisturizer and this product contains several ingredients that have anti-inflammatory properties.  I am pleased to have this item again, as it did help brighten my skin tone.  I only had the 2 ampoules, so it wasn’t enough for me  to see if it really helped with fine lines and wrinkles, but I liked the soybean ingredient so much, that I have  purchased some Innisfree Soybean essence (which I haven’t gotten to yet)  Since my review in Global 13, my googling skills have become amazing, and I did find the home website of this company and the product, which LISTED the ingredients!!  So, more information for you!  5mL x 2 each  Value $24.86

Product Description:  This “Lumpoule” is a word combining two words – “lump” and “ampoule” – and is basically a facial ampoule made from real Korean fermented soy bean lump.  It’ll work to prevent formation of fine lines and wrinkles and also brighten up your overall complexion.

How To Use: After toner application, apply 2-3 drops of the ampoule on your face and pat it in for full absorbance.

Ingredients: Soybean Seed Extract (organic jwinunyi beans), Sodium Hyaluronate, Glyceryl polymethacrylate/propylene glycol, Niacinamide, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Allantoin, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Lactobacillus/soybean Ferment Extract,  Salix Alba Bark (white willow) Extract, Cinnamomum Cassia Bark Extract,  Origanum Vulgare Leaf (oregano) Extract, Chamaecyparis Obtusa (cypress) Leaf Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract,  Portulaca Oleracea Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Adenosine, Copper Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Human Oligopeptide-1, Disodium EDTA

Purederm Make-Up Cleansing Tissue I had no idea that Empress’ used cleansing tissues! hahaha.   This are supposed to be made with green tea extract and I love green tea as part of a skin care regime…BUT I don’t see Green Tea (camellia sinensis) in the list of ingredients.  huh!   I do see ginseng extract in this product… I also use cleansing tissues, so these will come in handy.  Full Size 30 tissues Value $6.00

Product Description: Purederm Make-up Cleansing Tissues with Green Tea extracts thoroughly remove eyeliner, shadow, lipstick and brush…even waterproof mascara without skin irratation. With the convenience of pre-moistened cliths, they work in seconds to leave you feeling smooth, fresh, moisturized and completely clean…anytime, anywhere! Formulated with natural herbal extracts and Vitamin E, these unique ingredients work gently and rapidly to keep a healthier and younger skin.

Ingredients: Water, Propylene Glycerin, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, PEG40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Polysorbate 80, Allantoin,Panthenol,Citrus Medica Limonium (Lemon),Fruit Extract,Portulaca Oleracea Extract,Centaurea Cyanus Flower (Cornflower) Extract, Ginkgo Biloba Leaf (Ginkgo) Extract,Panax Ginseng Root (Ginseng) Extract,Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E Acetate), Methylparaben, Methylchloroisothizolinone, Methyliosthiazlinone,Fragrance (Parfum)

Despite not having any ginseng products (well, the cleansing wipes had some ginseng extract in them, but they were marketed as green tea wipes) and the fact that in Ancient Korea, I doubt that Empress’ used facial cleansing wipes, this is a very solid box and I really like it a lot.  Lime Nature’s cream is amazing and I am now addicted to all gel-creams.   The Daltokki facial scrub is very similar to Origins Modern Friction, so I will have to use it sparingly, but I love the texture of it.  The repeat of the soy lumps was just fine, in my book, so I am happy with that.   This is a much better box than I expected and I think that Memebox did handle the theme well, with the herbs, rice and flower references.    This box was less expensive than the Cleopatra box and I am much more satisfied with this one.  I am also assuming that the days of getting 6-7 items in our boxes is over.  The last several boxes I have received have had only 5 items in there, so that seems to be the trend…So sad now.  Less boxes, less products.

I paid $23.00 and shipping was bundled in with the Cleo box ~ I am sure I had Memepoints and this box was much less ~ and received a MemeValue ** of $129.86.  ** What is MemeValue?  It is my term to describe the value that Memebox puts on the products, which can be very over inflated.  You can usually find these products at a lesser cost, so I do suggest researching first if you wish to purchase them.
