Memebox  Special #34 Whole Grain 2

Whole grains are gentle enough for even the most sensitive types of skin, yet powerful enough to buff away dead skin cells and encourage surface cell turnover! Whole grains will leave skin feeling silky soft, smooth and glowing. Rich in vitamins A and E, whole grains are full of antioxidants that promote cell respiration and also stimulate the production of anti-inflammatory compounds, slowing down the aging process.

Informational Card which should explain what I got and its value.

As these products are unknown to me and perhaps even to my readers, I am posting a description of the product under my thoughts for every product.  Normally, I just do a snippet or if it is a product that doesn’t really need a description, I won’t post it.  But for the purposes of my Memeboxes, I will make sure I find the appropriate description, usage and ingredient list if I can find it.   The descriptions will be from the webpage that is linked to the product name.  Not all of these products are sold in the Memebox Shop, so I had to look for them on various sites.   I really had a hard time finding these products, by the way, so don’t be thrown off by the Korean websites that are linked here!

Osho Whitening Cream  I can use all of the mositurizing I can get.  It is with horror now that I see the dreaded “elevenses” on my forehead and I am not too happy about it.  I guess I shouldn’t complain as I have friends who started getting those in their 30’s.   Mine came much later, but still….not happy about it.  Botox might be something that I dabble in down the road, but maybe in another 5-6 years.   I know that women are doing Botox in their 20’s now (!) and I just cannot fathom that.   Anyway this seems to be a rich moisturizer that also will brighten my skin tone (again, something I need that I am becoming an old fart).   This container makes me smile ~ reminds me of the 1970’s, when this shape was everywhere ~ from chairs (think of that Men in Black scene, where Will Smith is filling out the quiz in that bubble chair) to deodorant (Tickle comes to mind)

This product is made some heavy duty oils ~ macadamia and jojoba ~ and the cream just melted into my skin while I was applying it.    Within a couple of seconds, it absorbed into my skin, leaving a matte finish, with no shine or oiliness.  It also did brighten my skin tone, and I hope this will work on a couple of the sun damaged spots I have on my face ~ from all of the sailing, rollerblading and biking I did when I lived in Sunny California (and rarely used sunscreen ~ runs screaming away in horror)  Full Size 50 mL Value $34.00

Product Description: Makeup can only hide.  Don’t just hide – when you can fix with Whitening Cream.  Enriched with high concentrates of rice bran extracts, this cream works to even out skin tone and brighten up complexion so you appear more lively and awake.  It’ll instantly brighten up the dark spots on your face for a healthier-looking complexion.

More Information

As a mild cream, giving you a enriched yet smooth feeling, it is made with natural PC (Phosphatidinnyl Cholin) extracted from soybeans and squalene; thus  it is very skin-friendly and forms thin PC film on the skin which is the Ideal Moisture System to minimize the loss of skin moisture.  It is rich in more than 20 natural cosmetic ingredients and thus it provides plentiful nourishment for skin. It is not stick(y) at all, and has a good skin-friendliness. Thus it can be quickly absorbed deep in to the skin. (With the Nano Enrichment Technology, the active ingredients of cosmetic ingredients are quickly absorbed.) It has high and dual moisturizing capabilities which provide moisture and help prevent moisture loss. Thus it always helps to keep the skin moisturized. It steadily delivers whitening ingredients and anti-wrinkle ingredients to skin by using the patented biological process. Skin lotion, as an emulsion type, is excellent in moisturizing skin and supplying moisture to skin.

Key ingredients: Macadamia oil, jojoba oil, portulaca oleracea extract, hyaluronic acid.

Young Face Natural Aroma Soap  This soap was so beautifully packaged ~ it was hand wrapped and I had to open it up to look upon this soap.  It has Young Face’s logo stamped on it and you can tell this is a hand made soap.  I like the smell ~ it is made with mung beans and that is the main scent that I pick up, but it is not a heavily scented soap.   This will be a very nice facial soap.  Full Size 100 g Value $12.00

Product Description: 100% naturally-derived and hand-made, Young Face’s Natural Soap’s formula is made from mung beans [which are ] highly effective for soothing irritated skin and treating excessive blemishes, freckles and sagging skin.  Mung beans are known to be rich in saponine **, vitamin, calcium and protein as well.

** saponine ~ chemical compounds that are found in plant species and produces natural soap-like foam when it comes in contact with water.  This is my watered-down explanation, which I learned from wiki’s entry on saponine.

How To Use:  It’s recommended to be use with a bubble net because handmade soaps tend to soften faster.

Bubble Net?  Well, they are mesh bags in which you place your soap and you will use that to foam up the soap instead of directly handling it.  You can purchase them on, which I just did!!

Seven DIAS Medi Anti-Blemish Serum  This is perfect!  This box is shaping up nicely.  I do break out (my bete noir) and it is fantastic to have a natural zit serum!   This is a lightweight gel and this is going to be used tonight.   It has sophora root extracts ~ which reminded me of the Flopsy Bunny tales by Beatrix Potter “It is said that the effect of eating too much lettuce is “soporific.” I have never felt sleepy after eating lettuces; but then I am not a rabbit. They certainly had a very soporific effect upon the Flopsy Bunnies!”  However, sophora root extracts are bitter ginseng, but isn’t really ginseng at all!!   Full Size 40 mL Value $29.00

Though literally translated as bitter ginseng in English, Ku Shen has nothing to do with ginseng at all. Actually it is another completely different Chinese herb, which is better known as sophora flavescens or sophora root in common name and Radix Sophorae Flavescentis in Latin name. Likewise, it has different medicinal properties and health benefits. This herb was first mentioned in “Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic” and viewed as one of the medium-grade drugs. That means it may be poisonous but can heal sickness and tonify deficiency when used appropriately. As a matter of fact, it is a good medicine for clearing heat, removing dampness, hair growth, and killing insects, which makes it a really popular option in the treatment of skin diseases and gynecological diseases.

Product Description:  Made from germinating soybean, mung bean, brown rice, barley, sophora root extracts, centella asiatica and pomegranate extracts, the Medi Anti-Blemish Serum has proven to be very effective in soothing, replenishing and treating skin troubles and blemishes for a cleaner, smoother complexion.

Young Face Nu-ruk Natural Mask & Scrub  For some reason, this product, although it is another DIY product like Herbclinic Rice Bran Powder we got in Whole Grains 1, I find this one to be more attractive for me to use.  Probably because it isn’t in a HUGE container, so it is more manageable for me to think I will use it all up and also, because it doesn’t require oats or rice or whatever breakfast cereal I have on hand ;)  I can use water, milk, honey or plain yogurt to mix this up.  I am actually excited to try this one out.  This will be a DIY mask & scrub on the weekends!  It wants a gauze, of which I HAVE TONS of gauze wrappings from my major surgeries done a few years back.  They are the perfect size for my face too.  Full, err…no.  This is half the size of the full size option at Young Face’s site…Deluxe Size 50 g Value $5.00

Product Description:  Nuruk is a type of kneaded flour used in the fermentation process of making fermented alcohol.  The kojic acid created when Nuruk goes though fermentation is highly acknowledged for its moisturizing, brightening and anti-wrinkle effects.

How To Use: Mix a spoonful of Nuruk powder with water, milk, honey, or plain yogurt.  After cleansing, spread the mixture evenly over your face, place a gauze over over and apply another layer of the pack.  Rest for 10-20 minutes, remove everything and rinse off with warm water.  It is most recommended to be used 1-3 times a week and must be stored in a refrigerator.

I suppose they mean any leftover prepared pack needs to be stored in the frig, not the actual powder.

More information on Nuruk:    Basically it is a fermented whole grain ~ I found the following information from this site about Nuruk

The History of Cereal Fermentation Technology in Asia

It is often mentioned that today’s modern biotechnology originated from the alcohol fermentation of primitive man. Since indigenous fermented foods were produced by natural fermentation, the origin of cereal fermentation technology is obscure. Unlike fruit and milk fermentations, cereal fermentation requires a saccharification process, which is accomplished with some difficulty. One primitive method of cereal saccharification would be chewing raw cereals and spitting them into a vessel in order to allow saccharification to occur through the action of salivary amylase, followed by alcoholic fermentation by natural yeasts. Another method of cereal saccharification is through the malting process. Malting occurs naturally through wet damage of cereals during storage, and is used for beer making in Europe. However, in Asia the malting process is rarely used in traditional fermentation processes. Instead, fermentation starters prepared from the growth of molds on raw or cooked cereals is more commonly practiced. The use of fermentation starters might very well have its origins in the process of Euchok, the daughter of the legendary king of Woo of B.C. 4,000, known as the Godess of rice-wine in Chinese culture (Lee, 1984). Fermentation starters are referred to as chu in Chinese, nuruk in Korean, koji in Japanese, ragi in Southeast Asian countries and bakhar ranu or marchaar (murcha) in India (Batra and Millner, 1974).

For Korea, Nuruk is made from wheat, rice, barley (whole grain, grits or flour)

How did Whole Grains 2 measure up to the first edition of Whole Grains?  I actually think it is as good of a value, if not better, as the first box.  I really like the Osho Whitening Cream, Seven Dias Medi Anti Blemish serum and Tosowoong Timeshift line and am very excited to try out the Young Face products  ~ the natural mask this time around seems more manageable for me, no adding of oats or grains to it!!   I like that it is different enough from the first Whole Grain box, which tells me that there are a lot of these wonderful products out there ~ so perhaps we will get a THIRD one!

I paid $23.00 + $6.99 for a total of $29.99, but I do know that I probably used my VIP discount, Memepoints and coupons.   I received a MemeValue  of $119.00, which is pretty good and I think this Whole Grains box has some nice hand made products in it with its Young Face items.   Nothing against PureDerm, but I think I would rather get the Young Face🙂

Did you get Memebox Special #34 Whole Grain 2?  What did you think of it and what is your favorite product(s)?  Comment below and let me know!  Do you like this box better than Whole Grains 1?

    1. At first, I was also indifferent to this box, as it seemed to take forever to get to me (actually, it didn’t…haha) but I am very happy with it and I do think that it has more quality items than WG1 as well. I do love the Purebess we got in WG1, but overall, this box is a better value.

  1. A good review of the box as usual!

Just one thing, I know that with active yeast after its opened, it has to be stored in the fridge as even slightly warm weather can activate it and therefore the whole lot will go off. Since its yeasty, floury products (talking about the youngs and the rice bran tub here) I err on the side of caution and store it in the fringe.
Oh, and I discovered the rice bran tub in my thumbs up box, didn’t follow the instructions properly and didn’t mix with rice and my skin feels amazing! I’m yet to try the youngs, but tub has now become a holy grail stable. Never EVER expected it to have such a profound effect!! Who knew?!? Lol
